Kib-Tek Bills - Does anyone understand????

I have tried, without success, to get someone in Kib-Tek to explain the "logic" in the charge for "Council Road Electric"
Over the last 3 months my charges have been, 9.56tl - 10.38tl and 17.40tl. My average electric bill has been 75tl.
Can anyone explain, Kib-Tek could not, how this levy is calculated??
Maybe they just deduct a number each month depending on how much the Belediyesi have not paid for their electricity usage??
Seems a bit of a rip of to me, I do not mind the payment but this cost was meant to be in the monthly Belediyesi charges as well??
I hate to think how much it will be in the full summer when all the Belediyesi airconditioning unit are on!!

Hello fellow Kibkom folk.
Can I assume that no one can explain the "Sokak Aydinlatma Bedeli" levy Kib-Tek charges and how they are calculated?
Or maybe you all know and I am the only one left not understanding.
We all pay this charge every month I assume?
Help please anyone.

The charge which you refer to is for street lights

I understand what the charge is for but I am trying to understand on what "formula" it is levied to each house hold.
I would assume it would be based on something or am I assuming too much?
It appears just be to a random number every month with no rationale behind it.
I have no issue with paying a charge but do have to understand and budget for the amount and would like to know how the amount is calculated.

It took me six months to get it taken off the swimming pool electrics, but I should just accept that there will be a charge each month on your bill for the street lighting and that it will fluctuate monthly as suits Kib Tek. I would budget for 20TL a month as it hasn't passed that level yet and will give you a surplus.
If you try delving into any logical answer you will do yourself a mischief. Just have to accept it and pay up it's the easiest and most painless way forward because you wont get a straight answer from the "authorities"

My daughter suggests that perhaps it is related to hours of darkness, i.e. when the lights are 'normally' on. I have looked back over the last 4 bills and indeed the charge has been decreasing, Here is a link to daylight hours for Nicosia, perhaps there is some link or perhaps not...

Based on that theory the charge should start increasing again until December/January.

My thoughts are that it could be simply a daily (or nightly) charge and seeing as the intervals between bills vary then that would account for any increase or decrease. I have just seen mine increase because Kib-Tek have been late reading the meter this month and because of that our recorded usage of electricity also went into the next charge band which we always try to keep below.

Well, how many thousand Kibkom users are paying this charge every month and no one has a definitive understanding as to how this charge is calculated, how much it can rise to and we all just PAY!!!
I know this is the TRNC but surely we should understand???

I thought the same until I looked at my bill but the lighting charge reduced last month even though the number of days since the previous reading had increased so that can't be it - not in Esentepe anyway.

Whilst we are on the subject of Kib-tek, am I right in thinking that if all village street lighting has to be paid direct to Kib-tek the local Belediye has reduced their bill by the same amount or is it just another shrug of Cypriot shoulder and we continue to pay the same amount!!! Please let me know.

It is quite possible that your belediye is still responsible for the maintenance of the street lights and what you pay to Kib-Tek is just for electricity consumption. I can find out for sure sometime this week.

The belediya are charging you to maintain the street lighting and Kib Tek are charging for the electrical consumption.
My neighbors are all either Cypriot or Turkish and I've asked them about it and they are all paying it and just getting on with life, they have no idea why the amounts fluctuate, but know they have to pay or be cut off so to them it's not worth worrying about and has to be paid, life is to short to worry that your being ripped off at every turn, there's more important things in life than a few TL (even for us expat pensioners with no large incomes, or savings, to depend on)

And this attitude is why the ""Government and Local Councils" can get away with anything!!
If people did not just shrug their shoulders and say well that is the way it is and challenged why things happened, maybe things might improve for the local people who live here on small salaries, unless they also work for the "State"
It seems that the "State" plus all associated Public bodies just removes money from locals and Expats for no good reason and more importantly explanation.
All I want is just to understand how my Kib-Tek charges are calculated. .

But you wont get an explanation just the usual shoulder shrug maybe a "that's the way it is" and cut off when you don't pay.
Ever tried getting an explanation from a government body in the UK?
Last time I tried all I got was "you just have to pay"

I was told that Kibtek were applying this charge because the local Belydere had not been paying for the electric their street lights had been using....... even though we had all been paying a few lira a month for "street lighting " on our water bills here in Ozankoy.
When I tried to get one of them removed ( the original one that hadn't been getting passed on ) I was told in no uncertain terms by Girne staff that the law had been changed and we HAD to pay both charges.................. or be cut off/go to court
I even wrote to Cyprus Today and asked if they had heard of this nonsens of double charging but didn't even get a reply...............
The local council/govt system here is utterly bankrupt with their over staffing and crazy early pensions etc etc, that they will continue to apply charges where ever they can think of, otherwise staff wont get paid and neither will the thousands of ex staff who did 25yrs service and now expect a full pension.
The only consolation is that what is happening in the UK nowadays is almost as daft.... but cost an awfull lot more ( if you are still paying bills there)

Maybe our new government will fix things like this?
We will then understand why we pay what we pay and could even predict how much it might be.
or the new government can use the users of utilities like they use Turkey to fund their inept running of the island!!
