We have discovered we have no water in either of our tanks. Does anyone know why Alsancak is not delivering water to us at the moment. Has anyone asked?

I am told that the regular guy who does the valves has been off, the guy replacing him does not have a clue. We have been without across the ravine from you for 10 days now but got some today. Normal service is supposed to be restored I am told.

I live in the centre of the village, and my tank is still empty (bottom one - no idea what is in the top one). My plants are desperate, and so am I. Maybe tomorrow then. But of course no one saysa. Does anyone else know anything>

Yet the Alsancak Belidiere tankers are running flat out filling up at the well west side of the ravine, 100 mtrs from our place,

really, really annoyed especially when you hear of others who are getting it every other day, and not too far from us either. Just the shrug of the shoulders is the stock answer when you complain. Perhaps it's why Alsancak dont charge a minimum as do most councils, they would have a riot on their hands if that was the case.

Let's have a reply from an official that works at the Belidiere!!

well now, there is the muhtar's husband, he works for the belediye, and then there is the son of the former muhtar, he works for the Belediye, and probably others too. But of course they do not speak English, so we can't ask them (well, I, in my ignorance, can't ask). So who will speak.

as I say, I live in the middle of the village, and cannot even ask the muhtar who is two doors away as to why we do not have water. Someone did ask her and all I gleaned was that 'people are angry'. Hmmmmmmmm

so who IS getting water in the village, and if they are, why not the rest of us. and who is going to buy my next supply of Chanel 5 to mamke up for the loss of washing my sticky, sweaty body!

We had a few inches last night, difficult to see how much in the dark. This morning it had all gone! So we re-ordered a tanker, NOW it is trickling into the tanks again. I know now why I am moving to a civilised country.

Not sure where you are Becker, but my question is "Were you told this by the Belediye office itself, and if so to whom should one speak to get an accurate picture of water input, so we can at least plan when to use the washing machine.

Matters are not helped by locals and Brits using mains water to water their gardens.

They are selfishly depriving others from having a continuos supply of mains water.

I understand this is illegal?

and so is hosing down the car in the middle of the road, and hosing down the frontage of the house, which uses gfallons and gallonsd. and as this is done by all the locals, is it any wonder that others copy! when in Rome do as the romans do - so if the brits copy their neighbours, it is not surprising.But I think this latest shortage of water is more than over usage. Itis taps turned off.
another factor is that the government should NEVER have allowed all the overbuilding with loads of houses with pools and no infrastructure to support the water of the electric.
so, what is the most illegal, one has to wonder!

I am in the middle of the village too - we are getting it every 5 days, was last on on Saturday so is due on again tomorrow, been like this for a bit now, used to be every 3 days last year.

Seems no reakl pattern here. I had none on Saturday and in fact it has been 8 days. So obviously others are getting a different pattern. |it would just be nice to know to mark the calendar and know when to be frugal and when not. Surely the muhtar should be able to tell us all - or is that too much of a Utopian idea!

We have same problem and are in upper Girne. No water for days. Have seen several tankers over the last couple of days at neighbours houses.Filling up their tanks. We will have to call one out soon

In Alsancak along all with other area, the water distribution is split up into different areas and the turning on and off of supplies is rotational with a different person being responsible for turning on and off of the supplies. I have been told that the regularity of supplies to each area is decided by the Belediye on a maximum consumption basis so those designated area that consume more will have to wait longer for their supplies to be turned on.

Are you suggesting the brits should stop wearing seat belts,crash helmets and drive like maniac's ?

Anyone regardless of nationality,using mains water to water their garden is not only being irresponsible but are also breaking the law and if caught should be punished accordingly.

ART - yesterday I witnessed locals hosing down the front of their house AND the road outside!! So before you condemn ex pats, might be a good idea to target the local population and educate them on how to use water, especially in the summer, wisely and sparingly.

Anyway, I think enough has been said on the subject, I merely asked the original question to ascertain what the situation was here in Malatya not for it to turn into the usual slanging match!!

Marions,answer to your question.I enquired in Belediye office.Lady behind cash desk stated four days on,one off.Not sure how many hours in that day its on,but always seems to be enough to fill tanks.
