Just noticed that you have to pay to read The Sun on line now. I wont be joining.

No prob for me. I don't read it off line! seriously, one has to consider the rising costs of everything these days, and people are finding more and more thatthey cnanot do things for free, or put another way, they don't/can't see that doing something for free might generate a three fold returnh in interest and money.

I know that some newspapers are free and others one has to subscribe to, so maybe the SWun is going the same route. Even the Star which is not essentially a on line newspaper, but more as a magazine (no links, archives etc) is a subscriber based one, becauswe it costs money to put it there.

Interesting, however, that the Sun has felt the need to charge. It might be an idea to write to them and ask them - otherwise you may die of curiosity!

Yea, but people are happy to pay money for co mics cos they need the laughs. The Sun is merely saying you have to pay for those laughs on line now as well!

I suppose that if you want to sell a lot of newspapers,you pitch the paper's content at the biggest potential audience.

Given that about 70% of people have an IQ of between 70-100,it makes sense to pitch it at that group-as it would give you the highest potential readership.

If you look at the more 'Highbrow' newspapers they inevitably have a much smaller readership,simply because a smaller percentile of the population can understand them-it doesn't mean that 'The Sun' is better than 'The Telegraph'(for example),it just means the Sun has a bigger potential market.

I suppose newspapers don't bother pitching at IQ's of less than 70 ,possibly these folk either cannot read,or don't have time to read a paper as they are too busy trying to work out how to dress themselves in the morning.

I only used to do the cross word any way so no big miss I never read the rubbish they print.

Not sure if I am correct in still saying that the majority of news agents in Liverpool refused to sell the Sun,after the Hillsborough tragedy.I know they did at the time, because of all the lies they printed and have now been substantiated and apologies issued.

Its no wonder the children of today cannot speak properly any more if you read the Sun they talk in some sort of code plus every ones name is sh0rtened to something ridiculous.

A "percentile" is a value or score for which a certain percentage of the data lies below. With IQ, for example, the 70th percentile is an IQ of approximately 110, because approximately 70% of the population apparently have an IQ lower than 110 ... that said, I'm not a big fan of using IQ tests to assess intelligence.
In any case, for some reason you didn't want to use the word "percentage", but that was the word to use.

As to using IQ tests to judge intelligence,well I sort of agree, but interestingly The US Gov uses them a lot-for example,they wont allow people in the army with an IQ of less than 85 apparently,because it is not cost effective to train folk that have a lower IQ.

Also they used to ban police officers with an IQ of more than 125 on the basis that they would find the job boring,and therefore promote a high staff turnover.

Sorry mate, a percentile is not a percentage ; it is a score in a test, or a time in race, or a certain height in a class of students, etc.
