In support of KAR

The other day,a very thin male Pointer puppy about 6 weeks old appeared at my gate.As I am on my own with a KAR street dog (Pointer) and a dumped Alsation cross,I knew I was not physically able to look after such a young puppy. It took my Pointer a year before she would let the Alsation in the house.I did the unforgivable (sorry KAR) as I know you are over loaded with dogs and cats,I telephoned Margaret Ray.She agreed to take it and within half an hour it was on route from the office in Karakum to the center.I still feel upset and guilty that I was not able to keep it.Neither could I leave it on the street and did what I hope was the lesser of two evils. As it is a puppy hopefully it will find a loving home.Thank you KAR, as I know you get a lot of flack sometimes.

Great to read comments about KAR that are positive for a change. Too many are way too quick to point the finger and criticise, but what on earth would it be like without them!?
They will, wherever possible, help with a request they get, but although they are an animal rescue centre, they do have limited space and if they agreed to take everything they are asked to all the animals would suffer due to overcrowding. In addition, KAR would struggle to feed them all and cover any vet bills.
So before anyone points the finger at KAR, I would suggest, if they haven't already, that they make the time to go up to the rescue centre, spend some time, perhaps volunteer and then you might be in a position to understand the issues that KAR have and be ale to have an educated opinion about them.
I think they do an amazing job personally, but they can only do what their funding allows them to and that is solely from fund raising and donations.

I couldn't have put it better myself Mozgor. I have seen too many negative comments over the years concerning KAR without people having any real understanding of the struggles they endure on a day to day basis.

Do support KAR as much as you can. Volunteer, donate, buy your pets food from them. Without them the animal problem in the TRNC would be a hell of a lot worse. I have visited Margaret and some of her team, I have the utmost respect for them.
It's simple, the more funds they receive the more they will be able to achieve. Well done to KAR and volunteers, keep up the good work, I aim to continually support them as much as I possibly can, I hope that many others will too.

Believe me, this thread is a breath of fresh air. It's not easy supporting/volunteering/working for KAR at the best of times, but to find oneself on the receiving end of continual carping and criticism can make life difficult at times. I wish more and more people would refrain from hitting the keys and complaining but get in their car, drive up to Arapkoy and do something practical instead. The dogs need walks, they need bathing, they need clipping, they need feeding, they need the results of feeding "removed", the list goes on and on and on. And thats just the Centre dogs, there are cats as well. Most of them are looking for "long time homes" but many will also live there for their remaining years.
Shops need volunteers to sort, iron and sell clothes, supermarket begs need volunteers, the collection boxes scattered around need money in them, drivers are needed to collect food from hotels and/or schools, and animals need taking to and collecting from the vets. So please don't keep giving us such a hard time, but help not only us but the animals.
And whilst I'm at it please, please put buckets of water outside your premises. Imagine you going without a drink of water in this heat!!! From those of you who have contributed to this thread, especially Soner, thank you.

Yes, and although it is nothing to do with KAR, don't forget to try to put some water out for the birds. If you had a 'bird bath' try to keep water in it for them.
And where there are street dogs, although many of them will be fed regularly by surrounding houses etc, this is not always the case, and I kow for a fact that sophie makes sure that one dog has plenty of water and the right food. and the more people that do that ensure that our four legged friends do not suffer dehydration.
one of the problems with Arapkoy is that it is a way to do and off the beaten track, but don't let that deter people. I was tlaking to a tourist who was admiring my dog, and I said it had been dumped on a beach at two months old - years ago, and this tourist who has an aprtment here, so is more of a swallow, admitted that he had not been to Arapkoy even though he loves dogs. so, i told him that he and his family would be welcome to go and take a dog for a wlak etc. So, he did say he would go next time he is over. so, the more people we can encourage to drive up there and take a look, the happier all the dogs will be.(oh and the cats!)

Thanks Kibkomers. Hopefully I have started some good postings and not criticisms, all because of just one of the many puppies that are dumped.

Anybody that does what KAR do, has to be classed as a real angel of mercy.

Marions.
I am doing my bit, all the birds have a little drink from my pool several times a day.
They have to make room for the Bees, and potter wasps that come for a drink also, along with the dragonflys that come and check me out when I'm in the pool
My kitchen cupboard is chockful of cat food for the feral cats that I support-about 4 in total at the moment.
I recently donated a big pile of stuff to KAR that would have raised a lot.

I guess each and every one of us has to give what we can how we can within what we are and what we have! (long sentence, but I am sure you understand what I mean). some of us don't have money, but we have time. and some have energy, and others have goods for recycling and others have big hearts to encourage others to have the same.
and it is good to know that love for creation does not stop with four legged friends.
Have a great holiday everyone, especially animal lovers!!!!(well, ande human lovers, and earth lovers and nature lovers - in fact anyone who loves anything.)
