Tulips – Important Information

This week has seen the launch of a new initiative by Tulips by putting in place a 'Tulips Ex-Pat Support Team' with Pam Kennedy and Jane Matter (contact details below) whose primary role is to be the first point of liaison for any newly diagnosed ex-pat cancer patient.

Currently all newly diagnosed ex-pat cancer patients either go directly to Raziye Kocaismail or phone ourselves. Some new cancer patients go directly to the Association and can immediately hit a problem with the language barrier, especially if Raziye is not available. This can lead to confusion and upset, which are things we would like very much to avoid in the future.

Due to the sheer number of new cases coming through the door each week (and not just ex-pats) it is becoming impossible for Raziye to handle every patient by herself. We have been helping Raziye as much as we can but we are finding that we are having less and less time to spend on raising much needed funds, which we feel is equally important to enable ex-pat community to continue to have access to the services that Tulips can offer.

Pam and Jane will organise a home visit and complete the relevant documentation that will help to assess that person’s individual needs and requirements and take the time needed to find out how the Association can help and support them. They will also carry out follow up calls, visits, help organise medication etc and will be the patient’s main contact for all matters relating to their cancer treatment.

They will be working directly with Raziye to ensure that she is fully aware of all our new patients and will be on hand to oversee the whole procedure.

We do have a website which we will be using to give out information regarding various cancers, promotions and any other relevant information, this is important as we have found that many people newly diagnosed here in the TRNC look to the web first to see what is available here.

As for ourselves, we are still available on our respective phone number’s however we would ask respectfully that all calls for initial information regarding new cancer patients be directed through to Jane and Pam on:

Jane Matter (West Girne) - Telephone number – 0542 882 6063

Pam Kennedy (East & Central Girne) – Telephone number – 0542 883 9100

Email address which is: tulips.care49@yahoo.com

If you are newly diagnosed with cancer or are someone who is currently receiving treatment and feel that you need support then please call us in confidence on our contact details as above.

Maybe you know someone who has just been diagnosed, if so can we please ask you to pass on our contact details.

We are here to help and we believe that there is no reason to struggle through this on your own.
