I believe the boy's family home is in Karsiyaka. Another sad and unnecessary loss of life due to too much speed I suspect. Fast cars and young people are a lethal mix here, unfortunately. My condolences to his family. RIP

Someone has written on another thread about a gathering and lots of people and speeches and that it was a protest. Was it a protest or was it a gathering of compassion and support. does anyone know?

Hi marion
No, this was a memorial of prayers at a family house.
Then They also had candles and pics of the boy outside
Atakara next to the wall where he had died.

Thanks Bubbles, that is what I thought it might be. trouble is we Brits/yabanci have a lot to learn about customs and traditions here and so when we see something which we are not used to, we can make mistakes of understanding.
And although this is nothing to do with this tragic loss, I wonder if people might find it helpful if we had a regular feature in the new KibKom times about local customs and traditions within the muslim understanding of life.
I studied Islam at uni for a while, but more as comparison to the two other major religions, and have a lot to learn about the customs of the people in the country which is my home. I wonder how many others feel as I do????
Thanks again for the explanation.

I believe that to be an excellent idea Marions.
Since we are living in this country it would be very helpful to better understand the customs, the etiquette, what is expected of us in certain circumstances and what not to do that may cause offence

I heard on Saturday that the group of protestors(?) (gathering) was outside Starling for a different reason, and I don't know if this is related, but wasn't someone killed or injured on a bicycle outside Starling last week..

Bubbles, yes I know about the death at Atakara,it was my friends sons friend, but I am asking what was going on Saturday morning outside Starling. Someone came to the market on Saturday and said don't drive near Starling as their is a demonstration of some sort outside.

I believe the protest on Saturday was about the high number of Motor cycle deaths, the police were there and they were pulling over people going past on motor bikes and scooters without helmets. I can't see how things will be improved here.
Only yesterday we saw a man on his motor scooter going up the road opposite us, he was wearing a helmet, but his little toddler son who was sat in front of him wasn't, how do their minds work, can they not see danger.

İ think its too dangerous for any toddler Or child to be on a bike anyway, And ive mever seen any wearing helmets and this is the parents fault Or any family relation.
They dont care and nothing will change, not enough police on the roads, Where are the police??
They only come out İf instructed too (Because too hot) MAYBE
We was in Girne one week and one man with 2 smalı chinden on a acilere!
Ridiculas! The kids looked About aged 4 and 15 months!
Again no helmets nor him.

I have already commented some where else on a similar situation. It is too hot for the police to get out of their air conditioned cars and too much paper work to be bothered.
