Does anyone know if any of the pet stores here sell these. Mr.Pound used to have them but unfortunately not anymore also Green Garden centre used to, the only ones I can find are suitable for a chihauha and wouldn't fill a tooth in my dog's head

Thanks Panchocat hopefully you are right but not had any for quite a while now. We and you must be the only ones with a big dog that get treats and ours is missing them

They seem to come and go. If your cash flow permits, next time they appear buy a cupboard full, like I do! Thing to do until they reappear, ask a butcher for some big, strong cattle bones, thigh ones are best, and roast them.

Add a couple of Yorkshires and some horseradish sauce and your mutt will love you forever.

Thanks Hippocampus, like you, yes we usually do buy them in bulk but it is so long since we have been able to get them she is starting to get withdrawal symptons Don't buy animal bones because of splintering or does that not happen when they are roasted

If you get the very large strong marrow bones, they are virtually indestructible. Roasting them stops them decomposing and stinking as quickly, and even the largest strongest dogs cannot splinter them. Mainly, they can manage to chew off small knobs from the ends, which do no harm to the digestive tract.

Our Dalmatian pierced her stomach with roasted marrow bones. Vet said they were a no no. After seeing her suffer and the vet's bill we never use real bones now only the hide sort and yes we too buy in bulk but are reaching the end of our stockpile!

Thanks all for suggestions but think I will stick with the hide bones when I can get them again - sounds like a trip to Pet City for my next visitors from the UK in a couple of weeks.

The pet shop next door to Ian Smith Estate Agents in Karaolanoglu had big hide bones early last week.

something on the subject. Can somebody tell me how I get Max to start chewing on these hide bones. Everytime I give him one, he doesnt seem to be interested. However, just a few times he started cheweing on and it got all soft, he would chew on it for quite some time. The problem is to get him to start I suppose... any ideas?

I must be a bit of a wuzz because I stopped buying the hide bones (small/medium size) because they made such a mess of the carpets in the winter (my muts don't like cold!!)

Strange creatures Kemal. Ours will not eat hide bones unless my better half is in the house. Why? goodness only knows!
