The Best Civil Service Experience Yet

Today I went to tax my car at Girne.

On arrival I had an immediate premonition of disaster because I found a parking space. But no - it was excellent.

There were 2 servers and 2 customers - 1 just finishing. 3 Minutes later I was out of the door - job done - no forms to fill - even a friendly word and smile from the server.

I couldn't help but remember how long I sometimes queued in a UK Post Office.

Similar thing happened to us at Girne Hospital this morning. We went to pick up our blood test results - got parked in the space nearest the entrance! One person in front of us in room 307, we were served and out 5 minutes later. Unheard of.

The lull before the storm maybe? Just to let you know, the Land Registery and Tapu offices moved last Friday and are now in Kaymakamlik building. Solicitors etc are not happy as they just used to pop across the road and now its a drive away.

Mine was 326.65tl - which compares pretty favourably with the UK charge.

My 1590cc post 2001 petrol car with official emissions of 205 g/km would cost £280 (880tl) this year - nearly 3 times the TRNC cost.
