Haagen Dazs

The last great hurdle to happiness in TRNC is overcome.
Today in Hos-Bes market I bought Haagen-Dazs Cookies and Cream ice cream. I never seen it before in TRNC but if it is in one shop then I presume it will spread everywhere. 20tl for the 500ml - a lot cheaper than the Movenpic which many have started selling.
Now if only I could find some Lazzaroni amaretti biscuits and Taylors or Dows port!!!!

Mardo's ice cream is so much better, and local, as well as a quarter of the price.

However, 20tl for 500ml???? daaarrrrnnn...
I am definitely looking into making my own ice cream at home.

Corona24, good recipe for home made cookie and cream ice cream in yesterday's Mail on Sunday on line in the female section.
From memory it was made with Oreo cookies, fresh cream, condensed milk and vanilla extract. It was a no churn ice cream so no ice cream maker needed.

Hope you find them. They do sell them in the south. I haven't looked for them here yet but probably will now, so I can give the recipe a go!

Well you can't find the original of anything here or in Turkey; So, I have learned to substitute as close as possible. The taste maybe not be exactly what you expect or want, but its just as good.

Lemar and Starling sell it too, but I'm sure in Lemar it was only 14.50 a tub which we thought was perhaps promotional?

I like Haagen Dazs but I agree MARDOS is equally as good and more variety available here.
As for Oreo biscuits - I've never seen the attraction. I worked for an American company and when our bosses used to come to England, the used to bring them in great quantities so I've tasted the real thing, well................. not nasty, but they just don't do it for me.

The recipe uses Oreos but any chunky chocolate cookie type biscuit works well in the recipe.
The chocolate covered Oreos are pretty good, better than original Oreo IMHO. Our boys loved Oreos when we were travelling in America, so I guess maybe they appeal more to youngsters with a sweet tooth lol
