BEWARE: PC shop Baseline computors Karakum

Please beware: the shop in question - Baseline computors situated on the corner near manipennies/shooters roundabout in Karakum charged my credit card twice for an imac computor.
Firstly they over charged us on the exchange rate, this was pointed out and they informed us this transaction was cancelled, and then they charged us at the correct exchange rate.
The first payment was not refunded to my card and I was double charged - the owner later said sorry and not to worry he would refund it... after a 2 weeks of waiting and calling him a refund was given..although it was 200 pound short due to the exchange rate of his refund 3.3TL - 1 GBP.
I'm now the owner of a very expensive PC.

BEWARE

Have used Baseline for around 4 years and never had a problem.

As for the exchange rate, shops can give any rate they wish there is no government control, just look around rates posted in banks, hotels etc they are all different.

Agree on the exchange rate... but my refund should be done at the same rate he (wrongly) charged me at... do you not think?

Is there any point in complaining to the credit card company? This is pretty poor treatment. Your card should have been credited at the same time as he debited the revised amount. It takes a few seconds to do. And at the rate at which he wrongly charged you. He should have admitted that he either made a mistake or was conning you and you were astute enough to notice, and started over again from scratch.

To my knowledge, if you ask for a refund on the same day, it can be done by the shop itself. After the day is over, cancellations on a transaction can still be done via going through the bank. As the transaction would be cancelled, you would get the full amount back to your card as it was charged. Neither the shop nor the customer need to lose anything on the exchange rate.

Things such as this have happened to us even in Australia where it was just a mistake that was rectifired immediately, but....... one thing we fell foul of and that is the difference between buying and selling. If it is on a credit card, then when you buy, one rate is used and if a refund is given that is a different rate. Obviously on something costing a lot of money that can represent quite a big amount. But of course if yoyu paid cash, that is another matter and you should sort it out with the owner.

I am sure it was a big mistake and I doubt it happens often, if at all, and that you were just unlucky, but as I say I do know with credit cxards you are dealing with two different rates between the buying and selling of currency. (that, by the wya, was ocnfirmed to us becaus ealan's son works in money exchange.

I can see Baseline computors in Karakum closing down very soon if they handle there customers in this way, looks like a well rehearsed rip off to me.

Maybe it is to do with change of staff in the shop. When the old shop was round the back of Ezic, I found them helpful when I went to get anything, but when I went into Karakum branch for a new computer with english keyboard , nothing really, and they tried to sell me somethng with an old software on for what to me was too much money. But I just thought that they did not ahve what wanted and left. No English keyboards. It mustbe very ddiffiuclt here to run a business with such expensive gear. But I always go to Laconic whom I have known for years, but then I always tlak to Leyla there - so I rekcon that the staff make a huge difference.
Is anyone from basline reading this I wonder and can defend themselves.

Oh Elizabeth, I need new computer, new keyboard, new fingers and mayube even a new brain, cos I am a fast typist with no time to correct mistakes where fingers hit too keys or where the keyboard is hot and has a mind of its own. so, as I know all Kibkomershave great brains and can read gibberish, I plead love and understanding for my failings!

Oops, forgot to say cannot afford a new computer - I need my money for gloria Jeans!

What a sweet and lovely thought, but i am sure there is far greater need out there on our own doorstep before the need to get me a computer.

also, I wonder where I should go to get it.This one was the only one with an English keyboard in the shop...... so have the get togethers for those in real need, and just have forbearance for my imperfections.

Marion I love you to bits as you know, but you don't need a new computer, you just need to slow down your typing speed when need arises. Like you I can type like the wind but have had to slow down on Forums that don't have spell check facilities.

PS: Bonnie sends her love!!

Hi Marions. Try going to the NCCCT bingo on the 16th,you might win 1200tl towards a new computer.

Ah, the wisdom of Sophie! You have themost appropriate name! Well on here! You are correct, but actally what I do need is a desk top with a keyboard that fits my fingers correclty. You are correct about the keyboard - well much of the time, except when it gets dirty and then it really DOES mess me about. i think I am dyslexic keyboard wise. flingers fly and so do the letters.
But slow down? Really? When would I get everything done.
and maybe Owl Lady is correct - the 1200tl would go towards a new computer, but ony go towards, so may I will try.

Thanks al of you for your wise words and suggestions, but at the end of the day it is all 'culpa meum'. (see I can spell Latin O.K.)
