Jumbo is a massive store that sells all sorts , from cushions , throws , photo frames , pictures, toys , kitchen wares , sweets , plant pots , pet things , fancy dress clothes , all sorts of things . There are 2 , one in Larnaca and the other in Nicosia .
At Christmas it has decorations and trees , crackers .
Well worth a trip south to have a look a round

OK. So we caught the bus to Jumbo, no probs with that. But when asked the guy on the customer information desk where to catch the bus to go on to Ikea, he said well there is no bus to Ikea from here. You will have to go back to Nicosia, and get the Ikea bus. But a young Greek couple overheard all this and said "We are going to Ikea would you like a lift there". Which they did. Which was very nice of them eh.

I've been to Jumbo a couple of times because it was recommended to me as best place to go for cheap kitchen things and other knick knacks. On both occasions I came back with heaps more things than I went for in the first place and not because I really wanted or needed them!
Yesterday I went in to 1001 in Lefkoşa (North side), a little bigger than the one in Girne and it has a supermarket at the back of it. As I left I couldn't help thinking it was very similar to Jumbo in the south. The difference, Jumbo shelves are neatly laid out, the place is bright and airy with tiled floors and it feels European. In 1001 the store floorspace is smaller so you find things are less spread out and you have to dig around a little more to find what you want, but you tend to find it stocks a lot of the same type of stuff - a lot of it cheap plastic ware similar to a Betterware or Kleeneze magazine. This store is also not quite as bright and 'European' - then again you aren't in Europe!!
Another couple of similar shops this side selling the same sort of stuff is China Bazaar and Stormax.
I'd rather give my cash to the Northerners if I can. Prices are probably on a par but then think of the petrol you'll also save by staying North side, not to mention you don't have to pay for additional insurance and tax and the ware and tare on your car keep driving back and forth.

Yes Jumbo is a well lit, big and a very well laid out shop. But noticed some of the stuff is the same as 1001. China Bazaar and Stormax.
The Chinese must be working double overtime to keep shipping all this stuff out.
