This forum is not Cyprus 44 !!!!!!

I find of late that some of the comments being posted are insulting, offensive and an attempt to bring this forum down to the level of 44. Is it really necessary to continually insult expats, TC,s, established organisations, if someone disagrees with something then it is possible to comment on such without scathing and unpleasant descriptions.
I would hate to see this forum go the same way as 44, it's right and proper that discussions be able to take place, and that people who have different opinions are free to express them but can we please try to be polite and cut back on the argumentative attitude which is creeping in here.
I won't be posting for a while now but will continue to log in to see what direction the forum is going in.

elizabeth - I am sure you are aware that the forum does have rules which posters should follow. If they do not follow the rules then moderators will take action, however we cannot be on line all of the time. We will however as far as possible pick up on a thread when posters appear to be getting a little out of hand.

If there are any incidents which we miss, you could always drop a moderator a quick pm to highlight a particular problem.

I will say tho, that in the main I believe Kibkom is an excellent forum and the vast majority do post sensibly. I used Cypruss44 and will agree that forum was at the end an awful place to visit.

I am sure this forum will not go down the same route.

I agree that slanging matches are neither constructive nor pleasant. On the other hand, it has to be accepted that some people are embittered by experience, or lack the skills to put across a point of view in a manner which is considered civilised by others. Such people deserve a say. It would perhaps be a good thing if this forum had a "dislike" system, so we could express an opinion of nasty posts without gracing them with a reply and becoming embroiled in an argument that could never be won. Maybe the posters would gradually learn what constitutes healthy criticism and debate, and what is plain cattiness.

Maybe a few examples of these 'insulting, offensive and an attempt -----" might be useful to the discussion. Cyprus 44 became what it was because of posters' attitudes. No wonder the owner closed it down, despite the many useful posts/threads it contained.

You're right, Elizabeth, I've just seen another disgusting comment about Turkish-Cypriots from somone who seldom has a good word for anyone or anything. I really think it brings us ex-pats into disrepute when people make derogatory comments about this country. If people don't like it here, go back to the UK or wherever you came from instead of rubbishing the people of this country. It might be an idea to remember the saying: "If you can't say anything good, don't say anything at all".

Members, if you see a post that is unpleasant, then please report it by clicking on the Exclamation mark on the bottom right of the post window, that way we can deal with it immediately.

I have just deleted a post seen on the White Husky thread. If members spot anything offensive, please do let us know.

the reason this is NOT Cyprus 44, is because it is KibKom, and you will see from Soner's comment that we want this Forum to be one that is acceptable, helpful, informative etc, etc to all, whilst allowing differing opinions. It is the way these are sometimes expressed that is offensive, and so Soner is right. If we moderators do not pick it up straight away, then PLEASE REPORT IT. It WILL be dealt with, but I think what is important is that none of us takes such comments too personally. As I have said befor,e someone might be angry and then when that anger is put into words it can mislead people as to the emotions of the writer. also for some, English is not their first language, and so things get lost in translaiton.

I am inclined to agree with the idea 'If you can't find anything nice to say, say nothing' and that is advice I often give at weddings!!!! That way relationships can be kept sweet. so let's keep the relaitonships between KibKomers sweet . Disagreements happen. Differing opinions happen, Different colours of thought happen, but thinking of others and how they receive it is important. One can never apportion blame on a race for any bad event. there are bad people, and they are found in every race.

Let's hope in time that KibKom will be up there with the stars as the Forum that is loved because it does not offend

Marion, surely not in the 400m hurdles! I've always found competitors in this event (race) really nice, never met a bad one. lol

tom, you have just proved my argument about 'lost in translation'. to be one jump ahead of you takes a lot of thought and early in the day (as now) it is too painful. But love your sense of humour, and next time I will specify 'human race' or 'nation'; or, ............

I would in essence agree with you, but then quite often the people you run alongside in life ARE nice people, or you would not be there!!??
