Hello!
So I see a lot of bases for the Turkish military everywhere, but I was wondering if any kibkomers are military? Speak English or what other language than Turkish? Where are they located? If not Turk where from? Or is this type of information secret??
Also, I see a lot of different people here in North Cyprus: Of course Turks, Europeans, Mid-Eastern, and Africans. Where else is anyone from? Any Spaniards? Latinos, Hispanics? American?
Just wondering...

Thought it a good question corona24.
Having Turkish Cypriot parents I was automatically made a citizen and so had to do military service. Managed to pay some money to cut it short and there were many guys from USA, Australia, Turkey, Germany and UK, in the same situation and some of them could not speak Turkish. I am located in UK but hope to be out in TRNC soon, have been visiting a lot since 74.
I believe over recent years quite a few people have come over form Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan who are fluent in English, Turkish and Russian. There are a few people from India, Pakistan and the Far East. My wife is Chinese and speaks both Cantonese and Mandarin as well as English....her Turkish is very poor even after 30 years. Have met people in TRNC from China and Malaysia.... so I am presuming this list can go on.

Cyprus has always been very cosmopolitan. In addition to what Soner listed there are many from Kırgızystan, Azerbeijan, Balkan nations, Philipines, Moldavya, Ukraine, Lebanon, African nations, Danish, Norwegian etc. - I have a friend from Dominique Republic and couple of others from Vietnam. Not to mention we have the full variety from UK (Irish, English, Welsh, Scottish) as well as Greeks, Armenians and Maronites...
As for military - what does it matter who served in the army or not? Most Turkish Cypriots in the North have served in the military wether the full tour of duty or just few months because they reside abroad. Your questions can raise suspicions about your intentions, when asking "if any kibkomers are military? Speak English or what other language than Turkish? Where are they located? If not Turk where from?" unless you have some kind of fetish about the military!

Now that my internet is working I can reply! Yaaay!
Soner, thank you for replying. "Wow" was my reaction hearing you are Turkish Cypriot married to a chinese lady. That must be cool multi-cultural household. She knows 3 languages and is still working on Turkish- even after 30 years! OH I hope it doesn't take me that long to learn Turkish. I find that language is one of the barriers that keeps holding me back completely. I "get-by", but I wish I could understand and respond as quick as I do my other 2 languages (English and Spanish). One last thing, I thought you were in North Cyprus!
BigOz, here is why I posted. I didn't want to specify who I am because I wanted to keep it "general", but seems I asked my question wrong.
The reason I ask if any kibkomers are in the military here is because in the military area I live in I think I am the only one not Turkish, speaks English and Spanish, and is a kibkomer. I was sort of hoping that other military spouses that live in my apartment building or other area(s) would see the post and feel more to open up and converse (you are not alone!) since doing so in person is likely not a chance. My Turkish, as I said is enough to "get-by", but really bad in listening and understanding. I know what I want to say and can. I do better in reading and writing. So I figured if I find a person like me on Kibkom then maybe I can have a friend that is in the same position as me. In any other posts (since Dec. that I started using kibkom), I haven't seen anything about the military here: hoidays they respect and how they celebrate, what they have done (etc.. Coast guard has rescued recently a fisherman...), there are places that are only for military. etc. I was wondering if there was another forum, but I do not know how to search and my Turkish in reading is still very limited. So I guess I'll just remain a social butterfly on the net.
SO Thank you for the responses of the different cultures here on the island- that is so awesome! I wish there was a festival for every culture to celebrate and see its people living among us.
