Can someone please advise whether UK standard TV's can be used in TRNC when hooked up to receive satellite feeds?

Our friends brought their TV out in their container 8 years ago and there were no problems whatsoever rigging it up to Digiturk

Perhaps we do not get digital tv here but to be honest am not sure.

Yes UK tv's are fine but Arcelik do good prices on HD TV's and if anything goes wrong they are excellent for customer service.

I have bought all my electrical goods from them since 2003 and whenever I have needed them to come out it is usually the next day and I get charged 40tl plus parts if need be.

Thanks for the advice. We have several flat screen TV's that we are looking to include in our shippping container to TRNC and would'nt want to waste space if they are useless over here.

If they are 'standard' analogue tellys, you'll even be able to watch local programmes in Turkish - it's supposed to be a great aid to learning the language...

If they've got the newer 'digital' tuners, for terrestrial digital TV, then that bit won't work here, but as has been said they'll work just fine with any auxiliary equipment, such as DVD players, satellite boxes, internet video streaming devices, et al.

We've even got 'proper' British Electricity here - I know that it's British Electricity 'cos it comes out of Brirish 13 Amp sockets - when it's actually on, that is...

You will probably want to invest in some UPS boxes to safeguard your delicate electronic equipment from the 'spikes' and 'brown-outs' on the supply lines - it's money well spent, believe me...

If you are bringing more than one TV, and/or more than one computer monitor, make sure that they are clearly itemised on the contents list for your container.

You will be charged a few Lira for each additional TV, but it's not enough to worry about.

remember electrical items you ship in will be eligible for duty to be paid when customs go through it

I thought you were allowed to bring home contents over duty free as long as you're moving over?

I'd agree with Morgor & disagree with your statement that all goods, especially electrical goods, brought in your once off container are subject to duty.
I brought in a container in with 2 used UK. TVs & 2 computers, one nearly new. No duty whatsoever on anything in the container. They do note the serial nos of TVs & charge you a pittance which apparently is like a TV licence but a one off amount. About 60 TL for the 2 TVs per my recollection.

They will charge for new generators though & if your container was laden with clearly new electrical items then you might have an issue.

I don't know anyone who has ever been charged a significant sum of duty on any item brought from the UK. as part of the initial container import that is allowed.

This is from the UK. though & I recall that you arrived from Turkey, so maybe things are different in those circumstances?

We just had our container arrive on 13 Jun 12. We got charged TL150 for 2 x tv's (one was marked as a portable on packing lists but was really a PC Monitor so got charged for that!!!) both were not new and were in storage in the UK for 1 year prior to shipping and the original storage packing lists were used and shown to the customs to prove that everything was at least 1 year old.......Guess what.......it didnt matter lol. They did serialize all electrical equipment on unpacking and no other charges were applied.......so in my opinion.....result.
