Good & reasonably priced dentist?

Hi All

Well time to find a dentist PDQ! I am likely going to need a couple of fillings, but one tooth has crumbled in half (now sharp and some pain) and if I do not go soon to try and get it capped there will be nothing to fix it on! Plus will likely need root filling as well.

The reason I ask for a reasonably priced good dentist is that I took my daughter to a very nice one a few months ago after she complained of an ache. This then resulted in a root canal and cost me 600 lira! I nearly had heart failure, but maybe I am just out of touch.

I will definitely need more work doing including a crown (I hope not an extraction as several already gone that side, and I really do not want false teeth just yet). Can anyone please advise, and also the likely cost of this?

I used Serger Uzuner , opposite the State hospital , above the Pharmacy,, Her Contact details are 0392 815 8899 , 0533 860 0460. , I found her reasonably priced, but more importantly, First Rate and an immaculate surgery.

She was better than any dentist I have used in the UK, only downside was I think she used a fair dose of anesthetic because I was incoherent and dribbling my red wine for about 3 months after. (Slight exaggeration) but almost a day. But of course the upside was I felt no pain.

Well we are looking for the same as UK dentist has said I need 2 crowns doing (never had them before & def little nervous) Its £200 + for a crown so expensive & I am wondering if it will be cheaper to get it done here. Any information on price & a good dentist for a very cowardly patient please .

Go to the dental teaching hospital in Near East University - I can not speak highly enough of the quality of investigation, treatment and cost. Absolutely state of the art facility...no butchers.

The dental association have a fixed charge for each procedure, this is a private enterprise.

Karmels not a case of not having the funds.. I wanted to compare the price of having 2 crowns cost as looks to be just over £400 in Uk.

gilly123, If you find the price from one of the dentists it will be very near the same at all the others as the prices are laid down by the dental association.

OK so post appears to have been hijacked by Gilly, but like Gilly I will likely need a crown or two, or maybe a bridge, or maybe a few more teeth pulled out. So the teaching hospital sounds good, as I really can not afford to pay out vast sums for this dental work. As I said my daughter had a root canal filling at one private dentist and it cost 600 Lira, which was a bit of a shock given it was her first ever filling.

So at the teaching hospital, or any hospital does anyone have an idea on costs? Nobody has said much about costs.

A crown? A Bridge? At the teaching hospital, or at a private dentist? Costs please?

Currently have cotton wool stuffed in one side of my mouth, so do need to get this sorted PDQ and it is not just one tooth either.

Also at the teaching hospital, where is it, and do I need an appointment? Thanks.

To get to Near East take the dual carriageway from Girne to Lefkosa, at the roundabout (boulders on sticks) turn left towards Gazi magusa. The turning to Near East is 1st left signed Yakin Dogu universitesi. Continue up this road to the roundabout and turn left onto the campus, follow the H signs and park in car park in front of hospital as far to the right as possible. When you face the hospital the dental building is the one to the right of the hospital, the entrance is up the hill slightly.

From the phone directory the number for the dental faculty is 0392 680 2030, you will need to make an appointment.
I think you get 20% off if you are a BRS member (membership costs about £10)
I don't know the cost of treatment but my husband and friends have gone there and I seem to remember it was less than other dentists. You should be able to get a quote for standard treatments like fillings, crowns, etc from any dentist and the hospital and compare before you decide.

Agree excellent post from come_on_aylin and yes I do have a BRS membership, and so what I may do is pop up there this afternoon and hopefully see someone or at least get some prices and post on here, so that everyone has an idea of costs including Gilly.

I see from their website that they have a "Quit Smoking Centre" too, LOL! Now my UK dentist told me a long time ago that I could not have implants whilst still smoking, because jaw not in good shape, and so if I have to lose yet more teeth, something is going to have to give here! I am just hoping I can get a crown or two or just one big bridge! I think I am gonna cry

I had a huge amount of dental work done last year by Ipek Gurpinar in Girne. 7 teeth removed, 2 pieces of bridgework - one 5 teeth and 1 four plus 4 crowns. Can't fault the work that she did. Cost 3000TL. Can't tell you individual prices but this may give some idea.

OK back from the Near East University Hospital. Very impressive. Initial consultation almost immediately, with no appointment. Then sent for x-rays. Immediately back to dentist who did the initial consultation, and the mess was displayed on her screen, and we discussed all of this, and a plan drawn up. This will be over several visits. For today costs as follows:

Set of x-rays (state of the art machinery) 60 TL less 20% BRS discount

Tooth extraction x 2 @ 90 TL each less 20% BRS discount (Good anesthetic felt no pain)

Will be back next week for another extraction on the other side + a couple of new fillings. Will update costs of same. I will ask one of the dentists about cost of crowns but I now need a bridge one side. The receptionists who took the money did not speak such good English, just gave me the bill, that I thought was very reasonable. There were leaflets lying around re a stop smoking package, but were in Turkish. All I understood was 500 TL at the bottom.
