Please be aware that there are four hunters shooting less than 100 yards from the Tempo Supermarket and the two housing estates close to Tempo in Esentepe.

One of the idiots is shooting over the heads of passing vehicles and he's positioned less than 20 yards from the main road crash barrier..

The police have been informed!

Yes it's like war zone around here. (Not far from Tempo) They are mad. Also reading in the Cyprus Today. They have Mist nets and Lime Sticks in the Karpaz. thought they were banned. Why the hell would you want to shoot Song Thrushes.

It took a very long time to get fox hunting banned in the UK. Has anyone tried contacting the Hunting Federation? Every year they seem to do an article in Cyprus Today saying the Federation saying they are are trying to enforce responsible hunting which would be at least an improvement.

We are in Olive Grove Esentepe

Hunters are all over on a Sunday, we are literally 10 yards from the bushes/trees last Sunday it was non stop shooting our back windows twice were hit with gun shot. Had to stop walking in the hills as its just madness with their dogs running around.

These people are so selfish no wildlife out there only birds.

When we returned from lunch yesterday, these morons were parked at the entrance to our development, on the pavements and both sides of the road, virtually blocking our way. I was about to ask them to move their vehicles when I realised you don't argue with men with shot guns. They continued to shoot in the field next to our site within 10 metres of properties.
Earlier in the shooting season there were notices put up which said no shooting but these soon disappeared. Last autumn whilst swimming in the pool some people were peppered with shot. I very much doubt if the police would do anything, as most of them are hunters themselves. We live with this every hunting day and it needs to stop now before a child is shot.

The hunting federation have their own wardens, call 140 and keep calling until they do something.

In contrast, I watched Countryfile on BBC last night which was mostly about conservation of wildlife, especially our lovely birds. Farmers and landowners are working hard to try to stop the natural habitats of the lovely songbirds etc. being destroyed. The public in general are being asked to help in any way possible. It's been freezing over past week or two so I have been stringing up nuts and seeds regularly - found 4 green parrakets hanging from them yesterday!

Suggest a group of residents report this problem to the police and the mayor in Esentepe.

I confronted the guy who was shooting near the road barriers and he just laughed.


The same hunters were there on Friday evening walking around the land so it's obviously a popular but dangerous place to hunt.

Perhaps someone should organise a coach trip to Syria where they could do some real shooting - the only problem being the targets there are able to shoot back!!!!!!!!

The Corn bunting is all but extinct in the UK due in most part to loss of habitat so no paragon of virtue there then....

I agree, we have all been guilty of neglecting our wildlife habitats. I don't live in the UK, but do enjoy watching Countryfile each Sunday. I try to do my bit as much as I can, whichever country I am in. It is so very sad to hear of the decline in our lovely little birds, and hear of the barbaric way that they are shot and trapped. I also love to hear that some people are trying hard to put a stop to this decline, every little helps springs to mind.

We get these mindless idiots within 70 metres of the back of our house every Wednesday and Sunday. I called the wardens on 140 who gave me the number of Girne Police. I phoned the police and gave them my location and phone number but, guess what, nothing happened. It is true that some members of the police force are wildlife killers too. Sad.

The suggestion from Art is what it will take - "Suggest a group of residents report this problem to the police and the mayor in Esentepe." Cause as that famous bloke said, "It takes only a few people to do nothing for evil to flourish." Who's gonna organise it? If a number of people turn up together at the Esentepe Town Hall and the Police Station then, as the saying goes, "There's strength in numbers."
Although not directly affected where I live I'll join in.
