Need a VPN and dare not do it myself.
I know it's a bit wimpy but I am really scared of downloading something not Kosher onto my laptop.
There seems to be a lot of choice but am not savvy enough to choose a good one.
Anyone else done it themselves and not scared? I could use some help with this one.

Re: Need a VPN and dare not do it myself.
By all means try a free VPN first, but bare in mind if you use it for streaming/ downloading the bandwidth will be be reduced resulting in slower performance. It might be that you are limited to use per day or month. You may also find yourselves being bombarded with unwanted adds on the free service.
As most people are aware you get what you pay for. A paid for VPN from a reputable company should cost about £ 4 to £ 6 a month.
Do some research on the Internet before doing anything.
I am not affiliated to any company whatsoever. It would be interesting to hear from people who have a free VPN and use it a lot everyday.

I've used Witopia and VPNReactor, both good and reasonable charges. Very easy to download and set up. But if you're with Multimax they issue you with a VPN, if I remember rightly.

I have been using VPN Unlimited: 3-Yr Subscription $19.00 for the past 3 months and can't fault it. It has a good selection of servers worldwide (over a dozen). PM me I if your not sure I can set it up for you on your laptop (if your local to Lapta). I have tried others, the free ones don't seem as good, but there are plenty to choose from.

Does any one know how to set a VPN up on a router?

I have just tried to download from BBC i player, but it seems the VPN is not working. It is saying that programmes are not available outside UK. Never been a problem before with Multimax. Is it just me or anyone else having the same problem?

I did have an issue last night, with my 'smart TV', and got around it by using a manual VPN on another 'device'.
I tried it a few minutes ago, and it seems to be working fine now, so presumably MM have fixed it...

You can configure a VPN on a router but it is not easy. For some idea what is involved have a look hereRAZR63 wrote:Does any one know how to set a VPN up on a router?

However I do not generally recommend such, there is usually an easier / better way than this in my view. For example I have a smart TV and I can not use a normal VPN on it because it does not allow such to be configured on it. I could connect it to a router that forces its traffic via a VPN, but it is complicated, more so if you want to only have that devices' traffic forced through the VPN but still be free to have other devices traffic not go through the VPN, difficult to troubleshoot when its not working and generally more trouble than its worth. So I personally use a (paid for) VPN service that also has the ability to do the equivalent to a VPN for pre defined sites on devices where the only thing you can configure is a DNS server. This achieves the same result on my TV (for those specific services that are supported - which are all the ones I need) but is much easier and simpler.

Yes the 'auto' VPN on the multimax connections, that means BBC (and only BBC) works as if you were in the UK without you having to do anything yourself, was down a couple of times in the last 24-48 hours but is back now and hopefully will stay so. Sorry.Keithcaley wrote:I did have an issue last night, with my 'smart TV', and got around it by using a manual VPN on another 'device'.

Happy to pay for a VPN. Just would not dare to try to do it myself. I personally think anything 'free' is probably not very good.
Might take up the offer of help in setting it up.
Got a bigger problem at the moment, flipping wind must have knocked my satdish off direction. Going to have to pay a guy to come from Girne if my post does not produce anyone local to Karsiyaka.

I use Expat Shield, they do a free version but that does not generally give you a UK ip so i paid for a years subscription, cant remember the cost but it was so cheap. Very easy to install and use.
