Maybe they didn't notice that the snow was gone by mid afternoon. But better safe than sorry. They did the same in the south when there was an earth tremor. Everyone panicked and the kids sent home and I am sorry to say that the earth did not move for me at all! This was a Lebanese School so maybe they were fearful as Cyprus has had some nasty earthquakes in the past.

But I am sure the kids will be very happy, although those in my village will be disappointed They arrived home with cheers and excited voices at the sight of a few inches of snow. But it has gone - so unless there is a load more thrown down tonight, the kids won't be able to play snowballs.

Marions.
The children here start school at 07.30, there is no heating in the schools. The school finishes at 12.30.
Today the sun didn't come out till 11.30, that would mean the children had no way to stay warm.
And please lets not have the smart alecs who went to school in the 50s in the UK giving their opinion, as I had the privilege to attend a school in the hill of Lancashire in the early 50s with no heating but still enjoyed it.

Heat Ing??what is c that. How many children have really good heating in their homes. As for heating in school it is nice if you can get it. I have both taught and been taught in schools with no oroper heating or chilling system .
I had it tough and it made new tough and in other counties it is a privilege top have an education. I fear the next generation could be wimps. But then i am just am old healthy fuddy duddy looking at the blue sky and glorious sunshine. Why on earth close the stable door after the house is bolted. I bet the kids love it. However if i were a parent paying for my child's education i might be just a tad miffed.

It was the Ministry that shut the schools today, I am sure ESK would have been open to students if it was not told to close. All the staff are in today doing various jobs...

I am sure the independent schools gain nothing from closing. I think is a directive from the government. The staff will end up going in anyway.

Other teachers will appreciate: Results mean everything. If not the school fails the children and itself due to lack of status.

No status equals no interest from those who send their child to a school knowing or caring little about education but looking at the results only.

And that, in a nutshell, is what teachers face every day.

Remember not all kids have the joy of being picked up by parents, as their parents have to work. if you had seen the poor little souls walking home in the Snow yesterday in Lefkosa as I did you would have agreed, and at 06;30am when my son has to leave for school it is bloody freezing. my sons class room has glass missing from the windows and no door on the classroom. forget heating! Also the danger for the buses that had to drive from Girne to Lefkosa yesterday as the roads were so slippery, accidents everywhere. I am please the Govt decided to give the kids the day off. better safe then sorry.

Rating of children trisomy in the cold through snow reminds me of me and my children ams my husbands and how we made slides in the playground and moved every minute of it. Much later living in a rural area maybe once a year the roads were impassabl e for many cars but we staggered on foot. Great fun.
Interest I ng though that gau children went to school and i am told others did not close so does that mean they are defying the ministry or being sensible.
Hopefully it is all over for this year.
Of course no one had mentioned weekday many parents do in days of school closure and that is to have an educational day at home. I wonder how many parents did that to keep their children on top form.

The Government have a "Duty of Care" to consider for the children as well, that is why they shut ALL the schools. Should be glad that they are taking action in one area at the very least. For those whose children go to private schools, do you pay by the day or pay for the results of the schooling, big difference. Seems like the biggest complaint is caused by parents not knowing what to do with their children when they do not go to school as normal so they have greater expenditure due to child minder requirements. I would rather have that worry a couple of times a year but know that my children's welfare was being looked after.
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.
