We need some Euros for holidays and i am getting a bit confused about whether to change £ here into Euro (but i think the exchange will be £ into TL then into Euro so maybe i would loose out - i don't know) or to get my family in the UK to change it up ? Or to change it South side ? Does anyone know which would be the better option ? Thanks

I would ask one of the money changers..work out what you would get if you were changing pound directly to euro with daily rate. I bring euros and change to pounds sterling sometimes with the man in Alsancak by DVD shop and he always gives me a fair rate. You will be quids in buying euros!

What you will find is most exchanges change your sterling in to lira then into euros.

Haven't changed any recently. Just checked on BBC website at exchange rate (mid rate). I have to pay 1.39 euros to get a pound. 0.71 of a pound per euro it says. I find it better to buy pounds from him rather than rely on some of the exchanges I've been given when dealing with tradesmen etc. who insist on dealing in UK currency, even though they live in TRNC and hardly visit UK - but that's another story. I think the rates at the banks in TRNC are pretty similar to some of the money exchange places. It seems the euro is a no-win situation now - and probably get worse

Where you going to ?
My friend just did benidorm last week and sterling taken ,changed to euro at 142 locally ...

From experience of travelling into the euro zone you get a better rate using your card to cash withdraw and then only use the amount you require .
But if you have to change for peace of mind and it's a tourist area then take sterling ?

I changed £ to euros at the exchange office by the Ledra St crossing and I got the going rate at that time.
