Toilet Seats!!!!!!!!!!!
Why is it so difficult for women to put a toilet seat down? forever complaining about leaving the toilet seat up. For crying out loud the bloody thing is hinged just put the thing down, men don't complain when they have to lift it up.

Re: Toilet Seats!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw the eclipse..well, half eclipse. It was quite amazing to see. I was cycling along, the clouds parted and there it was. I had forgotten until then about the eclipse and just thought oh good, the sun is coming out. I stopped to stare as it was amazing to see..then after 30 seconds or so the cloud came over it. That was it. It went dark soon after that.

Totally agree, if we can put it up then down again then why can't it be put down then up again....what happened to equality?

Because, being the sadists that they are, they hope you will catch a certain part of your anatomy as you put the seat down, resulting in a painful (and embarrassing) injury......topten wrote:Why is it so difficult for women to put a toilet seat down? .......

At the risk of causing an outcry, I must admit I have sympathy with men when there are complaints about toilet seats not being put down. I hold my hands up and admit I never raise the seat after going to the loo, even if I think it will be a man using it next.

Re: Toilet Seats!!!!!!!!!!!
I've given up on the issue, but what my mother shouted about was, not so much the seat up or down, she wanted everybody to close the lid. That does make more sense, especially if your toilet is in the bathroom and a small one at that.
There.....nobody said that before!!!

Re: Toilet Seats!!!!!!!!!!!
Just think yourself lucky to have seats.
I remember when most toilets in Cyprus (certainly public ones) only had holes in the ground - or if you were lucky a slab of porcelain with ridges for where you put your feet. One cafe owner, when it was explained that (despite his excellent food) he didn't get many British customers because they were used to more comfortable sanitary arrangements decided it must be one of balance and solved the problem by providing a rope to hang on to whilst ....err.... performing!

Now you mention it, Dippers Girl, I don't know how I would now! But they were in common in Girne as recently as the 1990s - although the story of the rope (which is true, and actually it DID help a bit!) was 1965 near Limassol
There was a public loo in the Old Habour at Girne which (in the Ladies) had both seats and (porclain) holes in the ground. The state of the conventional ones was such that one used the holes for hygeine's sake, but there was an attendant who sprinkled one's hands with rose water or lemon cologne on leaving

Re: Toilet Seats!!!!!!!!!!!
Super topic - it's given me a good laugh already.
For the record, and for the sake of hygiene, the seat and the lid should be put down before you flush the chain to keep everything in the loo as they say. Prevents things travelling in the moisture in the air
This also means we all have to lift the lid (and the seat for men) when we go, so equality all round

Re: Toilet Seats!!!!!!!!!!!
I have had to smile at this topic.
We cannot debate the up/down with our downstairs loo seat as it does not stay up of its own accord anyway!
I am with Cat lover on the lid being closed when flushing, I read somewhere that someone ( interesting job there) had researched how far the water spray goes when flushing the loo and not putting the lid down, it seems your tooth brush can have more than toothpaste and saliva on it.
I remember going to some of the Greek islands in the 80's and having the pleasure of the hole in the ground in the public loos, never had the luxury of a rope to hang on though

Re: Toilet Seats!!!!!!!!!!!
I am in agreement with Top Ten on this subject. It has taken me years to get my wife to pout the toilet lid down, when she wants to annoy she leaves it up, When we have visitors it is always ladies who leave the lid up. (the blokes just splash wee all around the top rim and don't even bother to wipe it off).
I believe that you should put things back exactly the way you find them, IE if a towel is folded a certain way in a cloak room then put it back how you found it.
Our son in the UK had got toilet seat that after a few minutes if not being used it would close automatically.
Also of course if the lid is not down then you may have a nice sewer rat entering your house !

I hope nobody finds this irreligious or offensive, but I am irresistibly reminded of the old joke:
"What did the Nun say when she found the toilet seat up?"
"Amen"

RR
And RR - in Dipkarpaz the have just build a new toilet complex and all with the old style foot pad loos, even the disabled one, that does have handles.
I'm not sure about Seabird at the end of the island, havent been there for a while, but all their loos were like that. several private houses have them too, some of them new.
Not quite so bad with a skirt, but trousers???

Err, ummm................ Not wanting to be accused of spelling police , but was the misspelling deliberate, or was it intended as a pun?
It would be pretty cold this time of year, with an uncovered backside
I think this topic is in danger of going down the drain.

Re: Toilet Seats!!!!!!!!!!!
Soner - got the answer for you as to where equality has gone - wait for it........ By the way, what was ever wrong with the pine log over the deep slit trench or has nobody on here ever been in the military??? Anyway to get back to "equality", wait for it, you know it will be worth it....... If the guys automatic toilet seat closes after a while, will it open as well when you walk in the loo? Equality answer - wait for it just a bit longer..... More to the point (no pun intended) will the automatic toilet seat recognize the gender of the person in the loo and raise not only the lid, but the seat if required????
OK, I give up - equality like everything else has......... Gone down the Pan!!!!!!!
