Ryanair flights - Stansted to Paphos plus taxi from Girne

Hello All,

Thanks to the latest cost-cutting measures, I'm having to change my flights to & from work.

I used to go to work in Algeria from Gatwick, but our charter flight will soon be leaving from Stansted.

I've noticed that Ryanair are running daily direct flights between Stansted and Paphos, and wondered whether anyone has any experience of the the standard of service.

Also, I'd have to take a taxi to & from the Girne area, and would like some idea of the safe-pace journey time and cost, plus advice on the best / safest route.

The other possibility is Pegasus, between Stansted and Ercan, but I didn't enjoy the only Pegasus return journey I've previously made. Are the Ryanair seats any better than those on the Pegasus aircraft?

All advice and information would be very gratefully received.

Cheers

HH

I can tell you, that in my experience, Ryanair seats are more of a nightmare than Pegasus, and that Stansted airport is also a nightmare of queueing to get through passport control. I have only been through during daytime hours though. Sorry, no experience of Paphos . Good luck

Hello surfmeetseast,

Thanks for your reply - I typed out my reply, then it vanished!

Anyway, we are supposed to getting a "Fast-Track" service, at Stansted, so that might help with the queues.

My other option is to keep on using Turkish Airlines, from Ercan, to either Gatwick or Heathrow, and make the land journey to Stansted by bus/train/taxi/foot.

Really don't fancy a white-knuckle taxi journey to & from Paphos.

Cheers,

HH

My friend just got a taxi to Paphos last Wednesday

The cost was £100 and the journey time was 2 hours and 20 minutes, normal time is just over 2.5 hours. Hell of a long way just to catch a flight.

We would never, ever fly Ryanair, it has an appalling reputation for treating their customers badly.

Hope this helps

Suehowlittle I am a little perplexed at part of your answer. The opinion you give on Ryanair. My experience of Ryanair is they provide an excellent service and I have never been treated badly by them. I fly with them 5 to 10 occasions per year. Always arriving on time, clean and comfortable aircraft with good stewardship. I always follow the rules and guidance on baggage and seating and have never been disappointed.

Ryanair....

Personally, deserted them many years ago. Just dont like the cattle feel......much rather use BA, Norwegian, Aegean or even Easyjet to Larnaca.......as for flights to Ercan its Turkish all the way for us. Tried Pegasus twice and after last experience decided not anymore.

Prices are good with all the ones we use if able to book a good few months in advance.

Hello Folks,

Thanks for all your responses, which have certainly helped me to make my decisions.

I'll probably stick with Turkish Airlines for now, but may give Pegasus another try at some point. To be clear, it's the risk of the long journey to & from Paphos, by taxi, that concerns me more than anything else, as I'm not a good passenger, if the driver is pushing along.

The scheduled flight times, and costs, of the Ryanair service are very tempting though.

Thanks again,

HH

The only downside to Turkish Airlines is that you have to change plane whereas on Pegasus you stay on the same plane.

Why not fly Gatwick to Larnaca then taxi to Girne which is about £50 each way. Try Looking at Monarch, Thompson & Thomas Cook fori flight details.

Thanks again Folks, I'm checking all options, to see whether I'll change from what I've been doing for the last year.

However, the constraint is that I need regular scheduled flights.

Another option is to try Atlasjet from Luton to Ercan, they are a kind of halfway house between Pegasus and Turkish. They serve food, you don't have to change planes in Turkey and you can get a bus from Stansted to Luton. I'm sure the journey will be safer than Paphos to Girne, not to mention cheaper. I'm not sure if they fly all year round though.

Atlasjet are flying out of Luton to Ercan daily and I believe all year round . No need to change plane at Istanbul.
A taxi Luton to Stansted would probably be about £50 and take just over the hour . Worth investigating.

Yes there is the plane change with Turkish....we have landed, disembarked and been boarding the next flight in less than 1 hour....always worried the luggage may not make the transfer...it has made it most of the time (except once!). It is also an opportunity to stretch the legs. There are of course a good few onward TA flights from Istanbul to Ercan....so you don't need to try and change within the hour...if you don't like the rush.

With Pegasus we have landed, sat on the aircraft for an hour and then taken off again, but even so we never really enjoy whole the experience.

Thanks for the Atlas Global suggestion.

Unfortunately, their daily flight arrives in Luton at 11:15, and leaves at 12:15, long before my flight arrives in Stansted from Algeria.

Still thinking of trying Pegasus, but have bad memories of the only previous experience of flying with them, albeit a few years ago. We were in the extra-legroom seats, but they were still uncomfortable.

I've ruled out Ryanair, as their flight departs at 17:10 from Stansted, which would not give me enough time to meet their check-in requirements.

So, it's a choice of sticking with Turkish Airlines, and a cross-London journey each way, between Heathrow/Gatwick and Stansted, or trying Pegasus out, for one trip.

Cheers,

HH

Have you looked up Norwegian Air from Gatwick to Larnaca? Excellent flight prices.

TB10pilot,

Thanks, but I need to leave here on Tuesdays, and return from Stansted (or wherever) either late on Wednesdays, or early on Thursdays.

In May, and most of June, their flights are only on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Cheers,

HH
