Just home from a most enjoyable evening at La Rosh' opening night for the season. The food was excellent and there was good choice for my hubby who cannot eat spicy food. Company was great and we were singing and dancing to Man in Black. Thank you all for a great night and I do hope it is a successful season for the owner and his staff. Well worth a visit.
La Rosh is situated about 50 metres off the main road towards the sea on the old Mare Monte road in Alsancak. Turn off opposite a place called Bereket.

Party of 8 of us, had a great night with good tasty Indian food, served by Abdul & his new team. Congratulations for finding a Brilliant New Chef. It may look basic inside but don't let that put you off, lovely comfy chair s& good service. Large car park & all on the flat so much easier for us older people (important when we've had a drink or two !! Looking forward to better weather to eat in the garden. Vegetarian & children's menu also. No, I'm not the owner just would like to see a young man working very hard make a 'go' of this venture.

My partner and I were also at the opening night on Friday.
We went last year after a recommendation from friends enjoyed it - then the chef changed and the cook was not as good. We complained to the owner he apologized and offered to do us something different. Something you don't always get here. He also responded to the complaints received from other about the cooking and did replace the chef.
He now has another chef. The food on Friday was tasty hot and cooked well. We both had an enjoyable meal. As stated the menu has vegetarian choices - something I look for. Also children's options.
It was a good atmosphere with the owner joining in with the people when asked to having a laugh and dancing.
I would say the venue sits about 40 so not a big place - but cosy. Since last summer it has been decorated inside. In view of the size I think nicely done. The furniture is comfortable and fits in with the style of a traditional building. No curtains up. They apparently should have been there but in Cyprus time they weren't finished.
Nice place - good food - good atmosphere. Also should you wish to go somewhere after or before for that matter a drink there is a nice bar within a few minutes walk away.
Would we go again? - YES
Would we recommend? - YES
Why have I put this on? - Because last year he had a blip and suffered as a consequence. Even though he did listen to his customers and made beneficial changes. He is a nice guy. He does listen to people and I would like to see him to succeed.

Went to owners other restaurant in Karakum last night "The Courtyard", have been going their for years but decided to give it a rest for a while and return for a visit, probably wont bother again since they let people smoke inside the restaurant and we entered through a cloud of smoke !!! we was utterly disgusted and voiced our thoughts. This was just prompted by a "nod and a wink" to the smoker to put it out as people had complained ! what is wrong with people !! we had to move to another room in the restaurant with no heating just to avoid eating in a smoke filled room - should have gone elsewhere

Sorry Ozangirl & Denis 1 but as far as I know Abdul at La Rosh does not have another restaurant & your comments have nothing to do with his venture. Hopefully those comments will not stop people going & trying a very good place to eat.

Ozangirl, you have the wrong restaurant. Abdul at La Rosh does not have another restaurant in Karakum, the Courtyard people have taken over Nosheen, not La Rosh. Please check your facts before slating a business that is just starting up. Abdul and his staff are working very hard to make his restaurant successful and can do with all the correct positive support they can get.
I will certainly be going back there.

Ozangirl,Deniz1, the restaurant you have mentioned is called Masala! Not La Rosh!! Maybe you posted on wrong thread as there is a separate one for Masala!

Please leave Masala out of this as this complaint has nothing to do with them and they don't need a damaging reputation either. Great food great staff

You are absolutely right, so sorry to have incorrectly commented on this post. It is in fact the same owners as Masala, previously known as Nosheen. But, also in my defence, I was not "slating" La Rosh at all, merely pointing out the annoyance of the Courtyard who i wrongly assumed was the same owners as La Rosh, as Masala opened on the same night.

Perhaps I should have just opened a new thread - sincere apologies !

I may well do that, we don't tend to venture much into Alsancak as we live in Ozankoy and have quite a few restaurants offering Pakastani/Indian cuisine this side of Girne. Will give it a try one of these days....

Had a very nice Sunday lunch at La Rosh today. 3 courses for 30TL. I had roast lamb with plenty of meat, roast and mashed potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, broccoli, cauliflower in chese sauce and carrots. All served on separate dishes. My wife had Chicken Korma with rice and chapati which she could not finish all. Finished off with banoffie pie and cheese cake. Very good service and go out of their way to please. Give them a try.
