Power outages have been reported in dozens of cities throughout the country
due to a fault on power transmission lines,
according to Turkey's Electricity Transmission Company TEİAŞ's statement.
Local reports of a "huge explosion" in Kocaeli have not been confirmed.

The subway system was at a standstill and flights across the country have also suffered setbacks.

Gotya. I was giving the information in case someone had folks flying in from Turkey. The airports were all affected, as were the trains etc. Retired Turkish...I don't actually know any of them, but hope they are OK.

People are asking whether it has anything to do with the hostage situation that is happening at the moment. I'm sure those with Turkish TV can fill in the gaps.
