KITTENS POISONED AT KARAKUM LEMAR
I have just read on another forum that the two kittens that were being looked after by Zeke, the security man at Karakum lemar have been poisoned.
This is heartbreaking news, I and probably countless others have given them tidbits and they were doing well.
But, there is a lot of hysteria and fingerpointing, ie, 'couldn't possibly have been expats', 'probably Cypriots as they are not true Moslems'
Apparently, according to Zeke, they had a slow and painful death, due to rat poison.
I wonder how he is certain of this, and, if it is the case, could they not have maybe wondered into the warehouse area to shelter from the heat, where there is possibly rat poison to keep vermin from the stored food and accidently eaten the poison.
Why be so quick to lay blame?
I am aware that some of the local village uneducated are not fit to have animals, but it's not fair to 'tar everyone with the same brush'.
Come and see my TC hubby giving up his favourite seat because he doesn't want to disturb our old white cat who is sleeping there, or 'escorting' him when he needs to go to the toilet incase there are any cars or kids about.
Accidents happen, sadly.

I think you will find that the majority of both TCs and mainlanders have no qualms whatsoever about poisoning both dogs and cats. I have been feeding three kittens at Edremit and all of them and the mother have disappeared, poisoned I suspect and as we are the only expats in the immediate vicinity one can only assume the obvious.
Of course, there are always exceptions but I would say, although have not done a scientific study, that 90% of TCs and Turkish would use poison on pets including their own hunting dogs when they are no longer needed.

I would guess that your figure is too high and should be more like 0.009% - only takes a handful of people to create a bad reputation.

Sylv,so you accuse, based on assumption.
The words racist and bigot spring to mind, but this is a nice forum and we don't get into nasty arguments.

Re: KITTENS POISONED AT KARAKUM LEMAR
I take exception to being called a racist and a bigot. The incidence of poisoning of pets in both the North and South is very high. Hence, we cannot blame the Turkish Cypriots or Greek Cypriots. In fact, it appears that poisoning is actually worse in the South than the North. When I compiled my Petition for presentation to the Government I encountered many people who had had their beloved pets poisoned, unnecessarily so because they posed no threat to any livestock in their area. The high number of strays in Cyprus is due mainly to the culture of the Island. Neutering is not in their remit and I feel we should not criticise but educate. This is not a racist or bigotted comment but fact.

I am totally confused as in the above posting you blame the TCs and Mainlanders and then in your last posting you say we cannot blame the TCs. What do you mean and who are you blaming?

OH sylv, you credit me with mystical powers, please tell me how, on Sunday 12th August, I could label your post re neutering as being racist and bigotted, when you did not post it until Tuesday 14th August
I think you are fully aware as to which of your comments I found highly offensive, racist and bigotted.
And, please, may I ask, to whom are you referring when you say, WE should not criticise but educate, I saw only one person criticising and laying unsubstansiated blame, YOU.
I too have only TC and mainland neighbours, and between us we feed, have had deloused and wormed and, with the help of KAR, are having neutered, a colony of cats.
Aren't I the lucky one, I must live amongst the 10percent that do not poison pets,
Perhaps you should move, I don't think you will encounter many TCs or mainlanders in Outer Mongolia.

Yes Mel, like yourself, he is does come across as a nice friendly helpful person.
Seriously though, I have my opinions, Sylv has hers, and as the thread has gone totally off topic and could turn into a never ending 'slanging match' I suggest we agree to disagree and keep the forum the nice friendly place that it is.
