Also if you go on internet you can get your postcode for the village you live in as we got ours from there.

Hope this helps.

Peter.

Postcodes here: http://www.kibkom.com/postcodes.php

Use Mersin 10, Turkey.

No harm in using the postcode too.

Hi are you coming out to live or just to stay for 2 months? If the latter suggest you get your post directed to someone in the UK who can scan & email anything important.
Although official letters do usually get here they can take several weeks & lots of post goes missing so it is best not rely on receiving anything at all.
Another alternative is to get a post box on the Greek side.

Whatever you do, do NOT put "Cyprus" in the address.

If you dont mind putting the town or village where you will be staying (NOT the full address for security) maybe people could help with individual situations, e.g. they only deliver once a weekto Ozankoy.

Also suggest if you are reasonable internet savvy, you set up everything you can by Internet (eg Internet Banking) : I dont find post quite as unreliable as some people suggest, but it is slow (average 21 days but longer if a bank holiday intervenes at either end ) and long distance phone calls expensive.

Also EVERYTHING slows down and goes a bit pearshaped in Ramazan and I think it is June/July this year.

You need to get a PO Box at your local post office, and aways use Mersin 10 followed by Turkey. I have not had a problem receiving mail except from USPS from USA.
I have a close friend in UK though who scans my important mail, as recommended in earlier post
Good luck

You do not need a PO Box here you can use your actual address & the mail is left at the local muhtar. If you live in Catalkoy I believe that they actually deliver mail!

Thank you for all your replies
I have gone paperless on a lot of post but some are still coming through and some just cant be done on line.
So redirect it has to be, having someone scan mail isn't possible for us

Jo
Thank you

Actually I was advised to put first namesas well as second on the envelope: eg Mr.John Bloggs, not just J Bloggs, as the local and Turkish post office workers get confused with English names (understandable after all we get sometimes have trouble with Turkish ones!) as it avoids confusion with other Brits with the same surname, particularly if it is a common one.

It is also important that the address be clear and legible. I provided a sligtly confused elderly aunt, and a rathe scatty friend with poor handwriting with a supplyof pretyped labels . Of course most post is computer generated now, so make sure your correspondents have recorded the correct address to start with.

Josie.....That is exactly how I used to tell people to address to us and I never had any problems with our post or parcels. Also used to tell people to put their name and address on the back(all they need to do is put their surname, number of property and postcode.

Hi Josie, sorry if this appears negative, but it is not meant to be. PO Boxes are not in each village/town area and some post goes to the muhtar or belediye for personal collection by the individual. Further, PO Boxes are not always available (there are 100+ in Esentepe and all are in use, not sure about Girne). Can you give out the location of where you will live, that way a poster may live there also and advise of the local system? The addressing advice given in previous posts is spot on. Enjoy your brief sojourn to paradise.
