Re: Changing name on electricity meter
did mine recently they wanted old bill, copoy of contract or Kocan and copy of paasport. They then proceeded to relieve me of 469Tl. What a bargain!!
As I got older I congratulated myself on my tolerance..... Now I realise I just don't give a "ooops"

Also - and trying to save the OP some cash.........if you take a TC to vouch for you you don't have to pay this deposit.

Deniz, if it's any consolation, I thought the same as you, I couldn't see the point of doing it!Deniz1 wrote:Maybe to save you some money! So sorry I spoke.

I suppose if you are a landlord then you would want it in the tenants name.

Re: Changing name on electricity meter
My husband died 3 years ago and I have no intention of changing it, so long as they get their money, don't see the point, when I die SEP!!!(someone else's problem)

Re: Changing name on electricity meter
When we bought our villa,it stated on sales contract that we had to transfer all utilities into our name! This we did, cost for Kibtek was 400+TL. Saying that,if your contract doesn't say this, why bother? As long as they get their dosh, thats all is required.

Re: Changing name on electricity meter
Oh well Keith as your posts are always helpful & constructive you spotted that I had not asked as to whether people thought it was worth changing the name or not I just wondered if anyone knew the current cost.
If for some reason you are asked for proof of where you live you need to produce a utility bill in your name, Muhtar's letter is not necessarily accepted outside TRNC.

Fair comment!
it's very difficult, sometimes to define the reasons for a post, and even more difficult, therefore, to understand the answers!

"Cost me £1170 .. But the rate then was 2.3TL to the pound .." This is not the normal deposit price, was there something special re your supply?
If you want money back you must keep the deposit slip, the best thing to do is not to pay for the last month or so so it can be taken off your bill. trying to get money back can be a nightmare if you are not there.

Re: Changing name on electricity meter
When we bought the house in 2005, it was on "Builders electric" .. Took almost 2½ years to get onto "Normal electric .. Office to office, upstairs downstairs, finally got the bill in our name .. £550 for electrician to check out the electrics before Kib-tec came to the house & £1170 to Kib-tec .. Talk about being green ..Col wrote:"Cost me £1170 .. But the rate then was 2.3TL to the pound .." This is not the normal deposit price, was there something special re your supply?

After almost 9 years & not for the want of trying, house is still not on the Kocan .. Our TC neighbour has been on the case for about 3 years .. She has done all of this with their own house, but is ready to "throw the towel in" with regards to ours ..
Still we have the Kocan for the land & were told by "someone of authority" in one of the offices visited in Lefkosa, why bother everything on the land is ours ..
