To all my friends, old and new who have been wondering where I have been hiding, I am working at Lemar, Catalkoy. Call in and say hello. It could be a great shop, has plenty of space to move around and me on the checkout!!. There are some great offers coming soon too. Let me know if there is anything you would like to see on the shelves and I will see what I can do.
See you there.
Alex

Ah but you did not hide well enough. I saw you and it was so nice to have someone intelligent help with my shopping, instead of chucked at me anyhow and the buttter in a bag on top of the bleach!!!!!

Could you find out please, why moth balls ("Napthene") have apparently disappeared from all the Supermarket shelves?Useful for deterring mice, andputting in plug holes to stop cockroaches and other undesirables climbing up.

As for wish list, Ginger Beer please.

When i was a child mothballs were for wardrobes bit coming to Cyprus (27 years ago)taught me they are meant for plugholes to stop these nasties entering my home. Fascinating how a change of geography changes usage.

Ah yes, Cottage cheese seconded (You can get it at the new Tesco but Lemar is more convenient.)

Glad to help KC. I cant guarantee the mice (that tip, believe it or not , came from the Daily Telegraph correspondence column) but my mice play footballl with them! The plughole however is an old established Cypriot custom and does work.

Called in today to Lemar Catlakoy for the first time ever, and was delighted to see what a large, well laid out store, and of courser greeted by one beaming Brit who in the Mian is always cheerful. Our very own Alex. And not only a smile, but ever helpful including caryring my bag to the car (you can tlel they were not too busy. But why not? Great stock, except that when I asked for Whitstable Whelks, I was told none in this week! Ah well, can't win them all. Will definitely go that way shopping again. Best Lemar around!

Ofr course it has nothing to do with the fact that Alex is there like a Golden Greeter of the week!! Absolutley nothing!

We are starting to discount 1000 items, a lot of which will be exclusive to Catalkoy.

Today Efes 50cl bottle only 2.40, down from 2.90, efes extra cans 50cl 2.90, down from 3.25.

How about Angora white was 12.25, now 10.75, or yakut was 15.50 now 13.90.

The list goes on, I will try and keep adding a few.

By the way toilet rolls Pufla 32 rolls 13.45, selpak 24s 17.90, 32s 22.00, solo 32s 18.50, 24s 13.45.

Worth a look around, look for the yellow labels.

See you there.

OOOPS

And it has been nearly 20 years since I have been in a Tesco! But I think they meant that confusion to arise.

Of course I meant the new Tempo - the one at Catalkoy They have, or at least had the last few times I have been, there REAL cottage cheese in their deli part, as oppposed to cream cheese which you can get at most supermarkets.

Good Luck with your new job!

For me it is Taramasalata - can't understand why shops and restaurants in TRNC don't have it.

Keith and Owl Lady: Well, the Catalkoy Tempo certainly did cream cheese - I have had it several times, but I havent been there for several weeks, so cant guarantee they still do. It is not with the main cheeses but in the special deli shop - turn left as you go in. They also used to do some classic English cheeses - had a brilliant , but VERY pricey White Stilton and a Wensleydale with cranberries (though I would have preferred plain cheese) in bulk (ie not wrapped in plastic) but hadnt last time I went. Ditto Brie. Maybe most people like me could only afford a small piece occasionally as a treat and there wasnt enough demand. Perhaps Alex could add cream cheese to the wish list.

If anyone knows anywhere East of Girne that does Wensleydale (or really any English cheese other than Cheddar!) just point me in that direction. High on my list of "things I miss most"!

Meanwhile from the sublime to the ridiculous, I am still looking for mothballs

Alex: Have you seen the Recycling thread? Perhaps you might think of Lemar making old cardboard boxes available for those who prefer them to plastic bags?

As with all the suggestions on this thread, I do pass the information up the ladder. I am however a somewhat lowly employee and cannot guarantee the level of response I may get!
I would say though that we are trying our best to use as few plastic bags as possible and they are at least fully bio-degradable.

We also have customer survey forms available that ask what extra products customers are looking for with a box for them at the exit. I always take note of requests and pass them "up the line".

Latest news......

We are introducing a lot of bulk cash and carry items. I know some of them (like a case of oil or a box of biscuits) might be too much for some people but how about 24 50cl Efes (dumpy bottles) packed 6x4 for only 53.95tl. That's only 2.25tl a bottle. Offer includes biscuits, large tins of dog food, rice, pulses and lots more, and the list will grow.

Trouble with that is not just the carrying, but the storage, where neither dogs nor rice can get at edibles ! And try not to get things stuck together with so much sellotape it needs a chain saw to get through!

btw after trying all the Supermarkets this side of Girne I found mothballs at the local villlage shop! Lets try not to lose those the way we did in UK
