If you use a DEBIT card, then your account balance - including any credits - should be available to you.

If you use a CREDIT card, then preumably it just puts your balance into credit, and would be offset against any debits , e.g. purchases ...

Ask 'em for a DEBIT card / cashcard

Yes I use Paypal quite a lot and without any problems.

When someone pays you it goes into your account almost immediate (upto 2 hours) and you can transfer funds out to another account again instantly.

The only thing you have to watch is the costs,.. don't quote me but I think when funds are transferred in the charges are about 4% but when you transfer out there is no charge.

I find it very convenient and flexible.

Hope this helps.

I've used PayPal since 2013, no problems at all. You have to set up on PayPal your savings account for money to be transferred from PayPal to your account. If you have problems with the bank, I'd suggest you contact them to sort out what is happening.
Do your best to grow old disgracefully.

I have tried several times to set up a Paypal account but always failed. The problem every time is that your postal address must match your bank account address. But North Cyprus isn't in their list of countries and my bank don't use the Mersin 10 Turkey variant - just KKTC. I don't have a UK address and, although I have a UK account, only US citizens can use an account outside their country of residence.

Anyone know a way around this?

JBA, I had the same problem when setting up my PayPal account so I tried fiddling around with the address, I put the correct address in until it got to country and then I selected cyprus and made up a postcode and it accepted it. I have successfully used my PayPal for many purchases and never had a problem..
Even when my card expired and I had to add a new one it was fine. Give it a try!
Ttoli I also use an iktisatbank credit card for my PayPal and was wondering how that would work if I wanted to sell instead of purchase something. Please keep us updated if you discover how it works.

As well as credit card you need to give them bank account details, I believe you need an IBAN number - most banks in TRNC only have one IBAN for the bank and not for each client. I got over this by opening an HSBC account whereby they give you your own IBAN number. You also need to verify you credit card and your IBAN number. I used my TRNC address using Turkey Mersin 10. I set up this account using PayPal Turkey http://www.PayPal.com.tr . If you set up a U.K. PayPal account then you need to give UK address and bank details. Getting a credit card from TRNC bank can be difficult sometimes, but to get over this you can acquire a Prepaid credit card and have this verified by going to bank and getting statement find out what the two sums deposited by PayPal and then going to you PayPal account and imputing the two amounts.

Have used PayPal in uk for over 12 years and in TRNC for past 2 years. No problems, great way of buying and selling online.

Just a cautionary note with Paypal. I have received a few phishing letters from "Paypal" that were bogus.
You can always tell these are false because they always address you as Dear customer whereas Paypal
will use your name. If you do receive one of these forward it to spoof@paypal.com

I have been using PayPal for 14 years and recommend it . They seem to be on top of the phishing now and it's very secure. The biggest advantage is that if you are sold something and it's not as described or not delivered you get your money back. They contact the seller and open a case give the seller a chance to explain but if it's not right you get your money straight back. So very good.

I have been using Paypal since 2007 and highly recommende their service. I have even paid for a holiday rental in TRNC with Paypal.
Its simple and easy to use, payments are secure, customer service is easy to access and the Paypal agents are very helpful.

To follow on I have a classic Mercedes sports I was going to bring here but not now so will be selling in UK is will be paid by PayPal so I have to describe it right and I am safe in the knowledge that the buyer will have paid before he collects it.

I've been using Paypal (owned by same people as Ebay) for many years. Both in UK and TRNC. The only e-mails I can recall receiving from them have been directly relating to sales/purchases. Charges were only levied on withdrawals less than £25. That may have changed.

I think they are a separate company now as they have become so big.. With regard to phishing scams it unusual for them to be addressed to you personally as they are in the main part dear member. PayPal always refer to you by your correct name.

Terry 2366,

That was my concern and why I posted as always before it is addressed dear customer so very unusual for them to address him by his real name. Paypal have been informed. Paypal and ebay are now completely separate companies and have no connection what so ever.

Soner - thanks for that and I now have a Paypal account.

I don't know if it is because the Turkish one is different from the UK one or they have changed it, but the registration process was completely different. The previous demand that bank address matched your postal address (the problem that stopped me dead before) doesn't apply now.
