Pigeon detterent -Spikes
Anyone know where to buy the small metal spikes which are used to deter pigeons from roof, water tanks etc?
Cost and location to purchase would be good, or alternatively a recommendation of someone who can do the job for a reasonable price. We probably need about 10mtrs in length in total.
Cheers

We bought ours from Marshalls at Karaoglanoglu, on the same row of shops as Unwins. They cost (last year) 16Tl for one metre strips, Orhan on 05338775338 would fit them for you.

I bought mine from Superhome in the South, and I have to say, they're fairly useless
I'm now tending towards TRNCVaughan's suggestion, which is to get a cat (or four ), and arrange for them to have access to the roof, so that they can go on patrol.
I've got the cats already, so I'm halfway there...

We haven't had a problem with pigeons since having them fitted, the little birds sit in between the spikes but no nasty droppings!

From our patio we can watch the pigeons strutting their stuff on neighbours roofs, but have noticed that the spikes do deter them.....small birds like sparrows are not affected. Anything to stop the pigeons dropping their loads from on high has got to be worth a go.

Hi Poshin Devon
AN alternative to the spikes which work ok but the pigeons can work around them is to buy a pigeon gel from the marshalls in Karakum. It has an offending smell but the main way it deters the pigeons is that it looks like its on fir from a pigeons perspective as they can see in UV. We have used this on the Harrods Depository Building in London and it has worked Wonders.

In the UK it already comes ready made in its little dishes but here you will need to find something suitable to put it in.
Google Bird Free Firegel so you can have an understanding on how it works

Re: Pigeon detterent -Spikes
I haven't had a problem here, but in the Middle East I used fishing line very effectively. You need a post at each end of the run - I cut the trouser rail from clear plastic coat hangers, drilled a shallow hole in the roof and cemented them in place with Araldite. I drilled a hole in each post about 9" above the roof and threaded the fishing line between them. The birds can't see it until they try to land and then their wings catch it and it terrifies them. It is very cheap to do and far less visible then the spikes.

I agree about 'things flashing" We had old dvds blowing in the breeze and they didn't like them one bit. Eventually the dics became see through and its now time we put up more for the rest of the summer.

I realise you must have your tongue firmly in your cheek but I hope nobody takes you seriously. An air rifle must be licenced and if you want to shoot pigeons with it you must belong to the Hunting Federation and observe the shooting seasons (about 8 permitted days per year). And even then you will achieve nothing except pigeon pie. The pigeons are there because there is food and water nearby and any gaps you create in the population will be quickly filled.
