Most Countries have problems with stray cats and dogs and the TRNC is no exception. All too often, to some people, it can appear that little is being done to address the situation.
Although much of KAR’s work is done on the front line – an awful lot is also done behind the scenes and often goes unnoticed.
Our dedicated Cat Catching team regularly catch the stray cats - area by area. They take the cats they have caught to the vets for neutering (and ear snipping) and then when they are recovered return them to the same area. They also respond to the many calls KAR receive about injuries and stray cat groups or individuals as soon as they are able.
The KAR Community Warden is kept busy dealing with the many reports that come into the office from members of the public, residents, local businesses and authorities. Apart from the medical cases, traffic accident cases and incidental cases much of his time is spent collecting stray dogs for neutering. Priority is given to females then males.
KAR's established and well respected Education Team include the need for neutering in their lessons when they visit local schools and colleges.
In the first 3 months of 2015 KAR have neutered (by way of vet slips or by the collection of strays) 83 dogs (25 male and 58 female) and 218 cats (68 male and 150 female).
If KAR hadn’t neutered those 301 animals, in just 3 months, then the stray cat and dog population would already be considerably higher this year. KAR is certainly making a dent in the numbers of stray cats and dogs and will continue to do so throughout the rest of the year.

Hopefully more information on open Forum will help stop the endless detractors moaning and groaning about "why don't KAR do this, that and the other" If some of them would help more rather than continually wingeing, we could get even more done. We are absolutely desperate for people to help up at the centre or drive animals to the Vets etc., particularly as the volunteers and paid staff, take much needed holidays. Thank you to those who give us your support on Kibcom and in other ways.
