The girl at Pamper yourself in Catalkoy is quite good but Acapulco is better but more expensive. I guess you get what you pay for.

We always go to Chicago at Karaoglanoglu. Just across the road from Lemar. It really is first class and not a rip off for money We usually get Jane who is totally brilliant. The other 2 girls are great as well. We have never been disappointed. Try it. Am sure you will be happy. But maybe it's the wrong side of Girne for you. Hope you get fixed up .

Re: Pedicure, where should I go?
What concerns me about most of the people who advertise Pedicures is that they rarely, if ever, ask if you are a diabetic. I once asked in one of the establishments mentioned above, if this came into the equation with them, and they didn't have a clue what I was taking about. Very worrying I thought!!

A friend went to XXXXX for a pedicure he got an infection and ended up losing half of his big toe after thousands of lira in medical expenses and he is not diabetic. Had they sterilised the equipment I think not.

I have had pedicures at XXXX and I can assure you they do sterilize their equipment. I would be the first to stay away if they did not!Deniz1 wrote:A friend went to XXXX for a pedicure he got an infection and ended up losing half of his big toe after thousands of lira in medical expenses and he is not diabetic. Agreed Rubyroo. They are brilliant at everything at XXXX. Manicures, pedicures and best haircutting. Maybe Deniz is a rare breed ---- i.e. doctor and detective. I think that she shouldn't have posted her comment. It sounded pretty nasty. We have been going there since it opened and are totally satisfied. Would not go anywhere else now as the treatments are amazing.

Re: Pedicure, where should I go?
Not going to get into a discussion re XXXX or anywhere else, other than repeat my worry, which is, other than one establishment, I've never heard of a Pedicurist asking a prospective customer if they are diabetic. It's not just a question of sterilising equipment. It's more than that.

Am I missing something?
As far as I can see Deniz hasn't actually named any establishment, she used XXXX.
She was merely recounting a friends experience, which undoubtedly was a nasty one.
As a diabetic I have stopped having pedicures here on the advice of the podiatrist I saw through the diabetic association. It isn't just about sterilising equipment but about minor cuts than can occur that can lead to amputation in diabetics in the worst case scenario.
On another note can anyone tell me if Amanda the Podiatrist friend of Leah Claydon is still on the island?

Panchocat, it was Soner who inserted the 4 x's replacing the name of the establishment mentioned in the last few postings.

Re: Pedicure, where should I go?
I'm glad that Panochat has brought the subject back to diabetic concerns here in the TRNC. I couldn't care less as to the rights and wrongs of establishments here, it's the lack of training and tuition with regarding to diabetics and their problems. It's lamentable. BTW Panochat, Amanda can be found on 0548 861 6674 and she now has a very special line of toe nail varnishes as well as performing medical treatments.

Re: Pedicure, where should I go?
I have diabetes and yes as a man have had pedicures in my daughters shop (ooh very nice too - nice to have happyfeet ).
See below:
Still, women (and, yes, even men) with diabetes are heading to salons and spas. The reason? Aside from being an indulgent way to spend an afternoon, pedicures can ensure that feet are clean and hydrated, which is important when you are managing diabetes. That's why doctors, such as Jodi S. Politz, DPM, a podiatrist with her own practice in Las Vegas, say pedicures are possible—if you're picky about your salon. "[Anyone with diabetes] can get a pedicure anywhere," she says, "as long as the nail technician is using very clean instruments and they know what they're doing." At her own practice, Politz has created a spa that provides sanitary, medically supervised pedicures. "Women are going to get [pedicures] whether they're diabetic or not," she points out, adding that people with diabetes do "have to be more conscious about it."

BTW, guys you really do not know what you are missing. Your other half is keeping this a secret from you.

Re: Pedicure, where should I go?
The problem I think people are trying to get across is, that if you are diabetic there are certain creams an lotions that you must not have on your skin an cannot use,I have couple friends an know that they cannot use certain creams an lotions because of this....hence why the salon should always ask if you are diabetic.
