Hi my friends are coming over soon. They have already used and despaired at the site internet so they want me to get them a dongle. It will probably be used for e-mails facebook and the like. What is the best dongle to get and does it need to be topped up before use and anything else you can think of that would be useful to know please

Many thanks

Mick

I got a Telsim dongle when I first arrived from Australia, and it was great for e-mails, internet and so on. I know people who just use the dongle and don't sign up to an ISP. It really depends how much they want to load up their dongle with. The minimum now with Telsim is 1GB (I think), only I can't remember how much it cost. You pay for the dongle, then add in whatever sim card you want the value of, so yes you do need to load it up before you can begin using it, and it lasts a month, so don't add on an unrealistic amount, try the basic load and see how they go. They'll also need their passports for ID. I went to the Telsim office in Girne where they speak English and are really helpful. Hope this helps.

telsim dongle costs around 50tl I think. One month 1gb 25tgl, 3gb 45tl and upwards. I would have thought that unless it was needed for work purposes and loads of huge downloads etc, the 1gb would do. Go see Telsim. sometimes they have deals too which include the dongle, but not normally for just a short period. You need to sign up for a year.

I think it is worth it to have a dongle as you can take it anywhere and use it - top of the mountains, down on the b each and all stations in between! And the coverage now is good. Wasn't a few years back, but now it is excellent - i think.

For a Turkcell (KKTcell) dongle

"To find out the remaining data amount in your package, please type in REMAIN and send to 1111 by a free SMS."

see here

If you are using it with a windows PC , I believe the connect software that installs with the dongle (3G modem) allows you to send such sms messages. Also be aware that the reported usage may not include usage in the last 24 hours.

If it is a Telsim dongle you will need to ask in a Telsim shop how to do this , or maybe someone here can help you.
