Something That Always Amazed Me About Wine .
The amount of Vegetarians, Vegans etc. who knew so much about what they could and could not eat. But still drank any wine they chose.
I have a trade a wine guide book in my in my Restaurant and out of around 1000 different wines there were approx 6 only that were suitable for Vegetarian? Vegan consumption.
I would imagine over the years most people who avoid meat fish, etc. etc.never gave a thought to their wine or even beer.

For vegans beer and wine generally contains caisin, chitosan, isinglass and egg albumen all derived form dead animals. good news is distilled spirits are fine for both vegans and veggies and the 'fish and chicken ' eating kind of veggie

And should I get flakk (carrots scream) I will tell you that I am vegan, I am 60 years old , I swim, snorkel, powerkite , surf, am slim and fit , all on a vegetarian diet for 40 years. I also never argue with people who hate me because they cannot understand it. Read Mahatma Ghandi, Namaste x

All that I knew was the fact that normally beers and wines are cleared with Finings, and I think that are derived from fish scales. But I am no expert.
So that is very interesting what Surfmeetseast east as informed us of.

What's more fascinating is how someone first thought up the idea of for clarifying beer with the Beluga Sturgeon's dried swim bladders (Isinglass) !Johnny Lee wrote:All that I knew was the fact that normally beers and wines are cleared with Finings, and I think that are derived from fish scales. I mean there you are making beer - hmm, oh dear - it's a bit cloudy - what shall I do? Oh I know, I'll go and fish for Sturgeon get their swim bladders and dry them then form a powder and add that to the cloudy beer - that's got to work has it not?
It's a leap of faith that your mind should boggle at....

Groucho,Yeah amazing how the human mind invented anything, but now it just seems to create SH11t everywhere.
how did people learn to make flour beacause with water you can live on it!
I find the longer I am here though I learn how to make things from what might be considered nothing. Its all good

Well said Surfmeetseast!!
I have been a real Vegetarian for 23 years and now a Vegan for 6 months. I am now enjoying food more than ever before.
Regarding beer and wine, EFES certainley isn't Vegan/Vegetarian and I don't know of any regular wine sold in the supermarkets to be Vegan/Vegetarian.
Every time we come over to Cyprus we now bring our own 3 litre boxes of wine that we buy from Abel and Cole.

If you eat anything with a face then you ain't no vegetarian!!
Did you know that many beers, including most real ales are made using isinglass, an a additive made from the swim bladders of sturgeons?
Wines often use dried blood or egg albumen as finings.

So does this mean that the many persons trying hard to be vegetarians and vegans etc., but drank normal beers and wines were not really veggies. Not their fault just maybe lack of knowledge.

So in that case all those millions of people claiming to be vegan or vegetarian were not. Last time I was in my Restaurant in December on a visit to the UK I did advise a girl who was vegetarian about the wine but I don't think she believed me.
Maybe more awareness is needed.

People can only do the best they can to avoid the cruelty involved in the meat and dairy industry.
