What's happening with cigarettes over here?

Can anyone answer this question for me please. When I came over I smoked Lambert and Butler silver; some time ago the shops stopped selling them, although they still had menthol and lights. So I switched over to Mayfair and the same thing happened, they disappeared from the shelves - so, I switched to Superkings - and blow me down - I've been into three supermarkets and they've run out. So its happening again. Has anyone else experienced this or am I just an unlucky smoker???
By the way to all the well-intentioned people who might say give up, sorry not an option, although at this rate I might end up rolling my own, lol.
I'm just curious as to why obviously popular brands are disappearing from shelves, its weird, but then what's normal over here!

Thank goodness someone else has commented on this. I was afraid to mention it for fear of the anti smoking backlash

I have smoked Superkings Blue for years, but they ran out in most shops two or three weeks ago, though other brands of the same make are still available. I am now onto Silk Cut which is at least helping me cut down as I dont like them as much.

Superkings have run out before - and reappeared when new stocks came in from abroad, but it seems to be a long time.

I have noticed a few other occasional purchases seem to have left the shelves or cabinets - eg pikelets (OK crumpets to Southerners).

Maybe it has to do with the falling TL and they are waiting for a recovery before reordering.?

They sell mayfair in the shop next to Café George.

Hope this helps.

Switch to hand rolling - I did 50 years ago and have never changed back again, hand rolling baccy always in stock everywhere.
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

OMG, I can see you now - tapping away on the morse key, with the 'rollie' smoking away on the edge of your desk...

Bought Superking lights (the blue packs) at HosBes - between Lapta and Karsiyaka - yesterday. They had been out of stock for several weeks. Carton price has gone up from 100Tl to 125TL which may have something to do with their absence.

Thank you so much for all of your replies, very helpful! At this rate I'll go through all the cigarettes on the shelves in time - doesn't surprise me that prices go up when they do restock though, considering we pay through the nose for everything else here at least fags are more affordable than in the UK. As for the pikelets (sorry I am a Southener, they're crumpets to me!), its incredible that I can get so excited when I find them anywhere (what a saddo, I know). The one thing I do miss though is Anchor Butter - Christmas Day the year before last my husband found them in Tempo, how excited was I - never seen it since though. All in all can't complain, we don't go without much do we

Close but no cigar! Leave the rollie on the edge of the desk and it goes out - saves baccy, saves money - us "non-tecky" types had to learn how to do things cheap so we could live on our wages - lol. Anyway, no smoking in the wop cabins not even in them dark days of the past.

This seems to happen with a lot of products, not just ciggies. One minute you can buy something, then it disappears for anything up to a couple of years. It seems to happen with some local (or Turkish) items too, not just the things we Brits just cannot do without, like Twiglets!

yep i noticed cigarette brands disappearing, but also had to change brands a couple of times as we thought they were dodgy as definitely made us have sore throats whilst smoking them and as soon as we switched brand miraculously our throats got better. odd, as we always smoked the same brand in the uk. like you guys didn't want to bring up the subject due to non smokers backlash lol, but luckily supply of benson and hedges silver are ok in leapt area at the minute

Sorry, a bit off topic from a non-smoker!
Is it correct that Carton prices are cheaper here than Duty Free at Ercan or IST??? and, if so, is it a significant amount of dosh and where to buy?
