Tarantula twosomes

Someone wrote on here recently that these big hairy visitors who invade the territory of humans, come in pairs. Really, I hav e now had four of them in as many days. The first two were found curled up decidedly dead (maybe the cat decided he didn't like his spac e invaded, ) but yesterday a 'monster' was found on the stairs and duly despatched to the building site over the road. Then today, a big yelling of my name by a family visitor, revealed an even larger one on the kitchen floor. This was duly despatched into another open space.

My question is - how many could there be. Do I have a huge family who appear one by one? Could I have a colony in my house? Anyone any ideas. I don't mind them if they stay in their own home,s but don't like it when they invade mine. I don't want to kill them but don't want to be bitten either, and I don't want them biting my dog or cat. Or do you think that this quartet of arachnoids is the end of the family?

Any ideas anyone?

And it is certainly true that there are more of them this year and they are bigger and 'better'.

For anyone who doesn't like spiders, they might just as well be

I don't understand all this collect them and release them into an open space.

Stamp on the monsters and keep jumping until you are sure they are squashed flat. And then put them in the bin.

I'd sleep better knowing they've been splattered than knowing they are over the road plotting their next attack - probably this time with a few mates.

Hedge fund, I completely agree with you, they are not cute furry little things, to a child, they could be deadly. Kill them and dispose of.

NoThey take a long time to grow to that size, just dispose of them humanely. They keep worse creatures down for you, and most of all, they are not wanting to bite you or your sprogs. Let them be

If it is a tarantula, the dead ones were partners, she kills her mate who is a lot smaller after mating and this is generally the first warning you have one in the house. She will then be hidden nearby in a dark secluded place. As you have found 4 I hope they are now all accounted for. 2 ladies who as you say are a lot bigger.
We over the years have had about 10 and only once they have caused a problem when a kitten got bitten but as a result I gave up smoking and the kitten was 10 back in April. The good news when you find a male amazing how quick a spring clean can be scheduled!

I have had four in three days visit the house and they are bigger than last years visitors but more of a brown hairy type than black like last years. I don't normally get a chance to remove them as my dog does the dirty work for me. Last nights spider was on the cabinet beside the bed and jumped off in the direction of a happy dog.
