Re opened Severner restaurant....
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has yet been to the newly refurbished Severner restaurant in alsancak (near Lemar)? Looks lovely, is it pricey? good food etc? fed up of going to the same places
Thanks

Re: Re opened Severner restaurant....
Needs new waiters/bar managers for definite. Service is pretty poor, waiting a while for drinks and to re-order etc. Ordered two pints of efes and got shandys.... Also they only do 33cl pints?!
Bland food, not bad but just lacking taste.
Very nice looking restaurant though. I'm sure it will pick up, but for me it's always full of Turks and unless they have more English in I'm not sure they will ever learn.

Re: Re opened Severner restaurant....
Agree with last poster. We thought the decor has been nicely done, waiters lack experience something hopefully that will change as any restaurant is only as good as its staff. Accompaniements to meals was bizarre, one dish we had was fish and chips which came with a hot chilli dip, one cherry tomato cut in half and one slice of cucumber also cut in half and a small portion of lukewarm frozen veg. Why oh why have a lot of the restaurants got in the habit of serving frozen veg it's awful. I'm not a Northerner so wasn't looking for mushy peas with my fish and chips but tartare sauce would have been a better choice than frozen veg.
PS: My mother was a geordie so no offence to our northern bretheren so hopefully none taken

Did either of you give the owners any constructive advice?

Re: Re opened Severner restaurant....
It was difficult to place the orders in the first place as lack of Turkish on our part and English on theirs, the waiter used the numbers on the menu to take orders and was not able to understand when we asked what came with various dishes. I do not know if it is new management but if not, then past experience should have been a help for them to have an idea as to what is or is not acceptable. I was surprised that none of the dishes we ordered came with a good mixed salad (usual in most of the local restaurants) as no excuse not to as they are ajacent to Lemar Supermarket.

haha i am a geordie myself, definitely no offence taken re northerners with mushy peas . hmmm very odd not to serve a better accompanying side with your main meal, i also hate all this frozen veg it is so lazy and bland to the taste as well, puts me off going back.
definitely think they sound as though better communication is needed with the staff. thank you for all your replies, definitely been of help

Re: Re opened Severner restaurant....
We went with our son as he was on holiday and we have tried just about all the restaurants. We went to Severner once years ago and decided it wa snot for u,s os thought we would try it again - and still think it I s not for us.
I agree with all the comments above- nothing was quite what we expected. The outside chairs were uncomfortable so we sat inside with a high level of noise. Waiters too impersonal (for us) and food not as good value for money (for us) as elsewhere. I say 'for us' because for others it might have been fab. There were other English people in there took but I did not ask their opinion and they may have been well delighted. If so, hope they post on here.
And no, we did not say anything to management. Why should we. We tried it and decided it was not what we wanted. Why should they change for us. If they wanted opinions they could have given us a questionnaire.
But they seem to be busy every day, so I guess they are getting something right for some people.
We will stay with our favourites in the area, but it could be that Seveners might become a favourite for others.
The only way to find out if it is for YOU, is to go and try it, - that's what I reckon.

Reading the comments, I see there is nothing like a hatchet job on someone trying to run a business, it is comments like these that could ruin a business, then maybe this is some peoples idea.

We have been there too. The food we ate was of good fresh quality. Shame staff & service are pretty rubbish. Going back in the next few days. Hopefully the waiting staff have more of an idea of what they are there for.I will repeat the food we ate was really nice. I had the full meze.

Maybe you should try it ardstrawray.
I will give it another bash on my next visit before deciding for definite. I reckon it needs time, not slating it in it's entirety.
Someone asked for opinions, I answered. No hatchet job here.

Why shouldn't people tell the truth? If the meals were poor they should be able to say without fear of being vilified,i recently paid 200TL for a Chinese takeaway for 3 people and it was awful, after one mouthful of one of the main dishes the got up and cooked herself some eggs.I wont print the name of the restaurant as the last time I put a bad report I got slated so now I keep quite and vote with my feet, and by the way I do put positive postings if a restaurant is,in my opinion, good.

Re: Re opened Severner restaurant....
Maybe a little unfair to say that our honest replies are 'hatchet jobs'. A question was aske,d and we have replied as we see it. If we kept quiet then the original poster would not get an answer.
Restaurants are a bit of a personal matter, but as I sai,d it is not for us, just as music is a personal matter of choice.
So please don't knock anyone who gives an honest opinion as they see it. It can be offputting as is proved by the last statement.
But as I said, one can but try it for oneself for as they say 'one man's meat is another man's poison' (perhaps a bad phrase to use for restaurants!).

Still stand by my "opinion", if you are not satisfied with a restaurant, go to the management and give them your feedback, do not post on a forum under an assumed name.Marions wrote:Maybe a little unfair to say that our honest replies are 'hatchet jobs'. Re: Re opened Severner restaurant....
I repeat that I don't expect a restaurant to change for me. And I don't hide under any assumed name.
We all have different tastes and it would be a dull world if we all liked the same. For me the place was not comfortable but to someone else it could be the best thing since the invention of the kebab. Forums are for sharing views thought etc and do NOT set out to destroy.

Sounds to me like you must be the management as you are getting very hot under the collar about this post. We have lived here 8 years and Seveners was here then so I am sure comments which in your opinion are 'negative' will have no effect whatsoever!!
The fish I had was very nice, my complaint was with accompaniements plus lack of experience with waiting staff, something which should hopefully rectify itself and like Marion the restaurant was not for us although it probably is for some. There are quite a few places I have had lovely meals for example, Calamari, Blue Song, Silver Rocks, Ambience, Ezic and Tempo but I am sure there are lots of people who would say 'not for me'. We were asked for a review of Seveners which we did but like other posters did not consider it a hatchet job - just our opinion. As the old saying goes, you can't please all of the people all of the time etc...

We went to the severner last night thought we give a go...... It was very busy indeed but alas the service was not very good ordered a beer never got had to ask again for it still didn't come asked for dessert never came asked again decided to leave this and ask for the bill .... We realised had been charged 8 lira for a tonic water only had half pints on efes not pints on draught they charged us 6 lira for half pint... and we had been charged fro 5 cokes when only had one all night safe to say not going again.... I think k they need to change prices on drinks bring down a little and service needs sorting out....

We were there last Sunday.Six of us. The food was great!!! However, draught beer is a rip off!! 6TL for 33cl of beer is far too expensive! Didn't notice what they charged for soft & spirits. Service was better than previous time.

Re: Re opened Severner restaurant....
Thank you all for your replies. I don't think any were hatchet or in any way damaging to the business. what would be the point in me asking for peoples findings of a place to take my kids and everyone sugar coating it saying its fab when in fairness it wouldnt be the truth. from outside it looks amazing, and yes the kids eyes lit up when they seen the softplay from Lemar car park whilst shopping, BUT if it is charging that much for drinks, then how will they get the clientele? theres places child friendly and drinks are far less. i value everybody's replies. hopefully if management are on the ball, they may come across my posting and think, oh maybe things need tweaked. unless a business advertises, then people like myself have no option but to ask on here or to go in and try and i am not in a position to just go in and try and risk my kids get upset because they don't do any food they will eat or it will be a case of a quick drink and have to get up and go elsewhere in search for food or decent service. that has happened at several places (one when our youngest was in a high chair and the restaurant didn't even HAVE a highchair,).
again, thank you for all your replies. very much appreciated
