Another Day to Forget

After hours of gardening I went for a pm kip and awoke looking like a festering dung heap and I had a blinding headache, so made for the pool, to find it overflowed across the patios and garden, the pump room flooded, and a 14 ton water deposit empty. The Wildebeest (bless her) said that I had pressed the wrong button to turn off the aircon before falling asleep and I had been blowing hot air through the aircon unit turbocharged by a fan at the bottom of the bed. Apparently, the required 1 ton top up of the balance tank turned into a 14 ton flood as I had forgotten to set the alarm on my mobile to remind me to turn the pump off. Again, I am very concerned regarding the mental capacity of Wilde as she can't even remember that I am mutton Jeff for high frequency noise and cannot hear telephone alarms. So, with earache from Wilde to add to the headache, I set off to feed the local gang of feral cats, clutching 5 used ice cream containers full of mushy cat food but, one involuntary twitch of an arthritic finger caused me to spill the lot onto the carpet in the car. Whilst trying to clean up, the local Kangol guard dog (loose again) appeared at my back and was in no mood to help me feed the cats. Instant squeaky bum time for me ! I wonder if I can get an early night without further bother ?

Stories like yours just make me thankful that I am married to a man who doesn't like swimming pools (so we don't have one); doesn't believe in air con units (so we don't have any), so the only complications in our life is when it rains and our one little corner drain overflows. Maybe the simple life IS easier after all.
But hope that DD is now O.K and at great expense has replaced the 14 ton of water which has, after all, boosted the local economy.

DD - If you let the Kangol see the headache tablets, it might take the hint, and leave you alone - perhaps even the Wildebeest (Bless her) might be persuaded that you need some rest - after all, women have used this ploy successfully for years...

If that doesn't work, just do what they do - fake it! Image

DD, suggest you get Wilde to give you a brisk all over rub with fullers earth and a brillo pad.

You won't enjoy it but the poor long suffering soul could do with a bit of pleasure in life, and it will certainly take your mind of your headache.

Yes Blue Butterfly, I too wondered what the dog was doing wearing a beret in this hot weather?? Still there's no accounting for taste.

Marion. Yes, a pool is an expensive facility and we have to make sacrifices in other areas of our budget to maintain it. Several of the youngest of our 10 grand children have become swimmers in it, plus, a 50 year old visitor who was terrified of water left after a weeks holiday having managed to swim a length unaided. Water from the local Belly is less than 1 ton a week but I deserve the financial penalty for stupidity. My punishment seems less severe as the Turkish man who supplies us with water has to fund regular trips to Turkey for medical treatment for his wife. They are saving all they can as the necessity for a kidney replacement looms. Thus the cost of the tanker is one payment into the local economy going to a good cause.

Blue Butterfly. I doubt Wilde will need a brillo pad to apply Fuller's Earth as she has broken finger nails from cleaning the windows with, water, vinegar, and cloth which I provided for her at great expense !

:shock, you are s o o o mean, my heart bleeds for that poor woman.

Kidney transplant?

The usual tale is, my father has had to have treatment for his heart, and they are keeping him prisoner in the hospital until I pay the bill.

I think it is a case of one of us is very gullable and one of us is an old sceptic.

Now this is me being bossy, do not apologise for having a swimming pool or any other luxury that you, and probably, Wilde, no doubt worked very hard for, some people when they had money, lived the high life and squandered and some people struggled, sacrificed and saved.

And now, they are deservedly, reaping the benefits.

I hope you and Wilde, [BLESS HER] and the rest of the DD clan continue to to enjoy what you have worked hard for.

But PLEASE, buy her a squiffy and a bottle of washing up liquid, so that she, or maybe YOU, now and again, can whizz over the windows in no time.

Remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

Blue Butterfly. Sadly, the Turkish neighbour is a very sick lady with visible wounds where it has taken specialised treatment to avoid collapsed veins and insert catheters for dialysis and drug treatments. The attempted kidney match process is lengthy, painful, and debilitating for her.

Do not worry too much about Wilde as she has a squeegie thingy for windows but prefers vinegar and cloth (followed by a manicure !). Wilde cleans the inside of the windows and tasks me to clean the outsides. However, I have convinced her to continue cleaning the insides so that we can see what the neighbours are up to whilst I discontinue cleaning the outsides as we do not want the neighbours looking in !

Keep fluttering by with a smile and a laugh !

We've all done it I suspect, so don't feel too bad. A pal of mine was helping out a neighbour who was back in the UK by looking after his pool. A power cut transpired while he was draining a little water from the pool to do some maintenance work but he forgot to switch it back to normal When he went back later, the whole of the pool had drained away, ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!

Angela. We are so pleased to read your good news regarding Les as our thoughts have been with you both. We hope you will soon be able to confirm a quick recovery to full health and an end to the worries you have had to bear.

DD, I apologise, unreservedly, for my flippant remark re 'sob stories' I didn't realise you knew the people personally. I sincerely hope your neighbour gets the help she needs.

Blue Butterfly. No apology needed for giving sound advice. I guess there are few of us here who have not been subjected to scams of various proportions due to taking things at face value or showing trust in officialdom, which proved to be misplaced.
