Deniz,

You're right - you can never be lost to the point where you don't actually know where you are...As my pal Kibris says -

"Look, the Mountains are over there, and the sea is over there... Now, what else do you need to know?

However, finding an obscure address down a back alley in a Town Centre is definitely easier with a Sat Nav, particularly if you don't have a clue where it is, and your Sat Nav does...!

Correct Keith, especially as you can't ask anyone as the locals haven't a clue about street names!

mss1 if you have a smart phone you can down load an app called Cyprus on road,it is a sat nav for the whole off Cyprus not just the north it's got speed camera's on it and speed limits with warning sounds etc, I use it for the latter, the wifes uncle lives in paphos it will take us door to door. Once you've downloaded it there is no more cost involved. Price is £21:99. we have only just got our street name and number during the last census and it is on there. there has been updates for it as well. hope that helps.

Turkish quarter back streets are so narrow you cannot take a car down a lot of them its bound to be one of those. Murphys law.

I have tried a few 'android' based solutions and to date I think the best is Cyprus-on-road mentioned already above. The others I have tried are iGo with 'stolen' (non paid for maps) and just a modifed google maps app that allows 'navigation' to work in the TRNC, the standard app says this feature is not enabled in this country.

Overall Cyprus-on-road seems to be the best of these alternatives. It does not have every address and road name but it does have alot, along with places of interest (including banks, pharmacies and the like) and speed cameras. Their website is

http://www.cyprusgiscenter.com/english/ ... nroad.html

They do a seven day 'trial' so yopu can see if it is any good for you before you buy.

I am restricted to the KFS satnav system. In explanation, the Wildebeest (bless her) insists on travelling with a map on her lap, and does not know the 4 cardinal points of a compass, let alone her left hand from her right. After numerous mishaps I taught her to shout "Knife" for turning right, "Fork" for turning left, and "spoon" for straight ahead. A big mistake as it is I who has to lay the table for meals. We must have visited thousands of places on the Island unknown by man and, I have lost count of the times we have been chased off private property. Not bad is it, but somewhat frustrating if we have only nipped out for a loaf of bread ? Perhaps best to take Keith's advice.

Oh no you don't!

I'm not having you blame me for your wonky navigation, and I think that it's despicable blaming it on that poor long suffering soul that you're married to...

Keith. I would not blame you for anything ! I was lauding your great knowledge of, and skills with, all modern things digital/mechanical and more. Nor do I blame Wilde. I blame myself. When my mother in law shot through the sun roof some years ago I should not have been so over excited that I forgot to retrieve and refit the passenger ejection seat which went with her !

I bet that you put one of those irresistible 'Do not Touch' notices on the 'Eject Button' - that always works! - it's like a 'Wet Paint' sign...

Just wondering if there has been any progress on a Cyprus-wide SatNav in the last year or so? I am keen to tour the island later in the year and as I don't own a smart phone here the 'Cyprus on the Road' download is of no use to me.

ERA http://eranav.com/products.html

Sell Sat Navs for Cyprus from Euro 90 they also have maps for 25 Euro that can be loaded onto your own Sat Nav ( Dependent on the Model) these cover the whole island

Cyprus on Road http://www.cyprusgiscenter.com/english/ ... nroad.html

Also sell a map for the whole island which you can load onto your own Sat Nav ( depending on Model) for 15 Euro ( you can also have a 7 day free trial). I purchased the map and they assisted me in loading it. I would suggest contacting them they were very helpfull in advising what Sat Nav it worked on and helping with instructions on how to load it.

Visited Eranav in Girne yesterday and purchased their Navking 500; a 5 inch model for TL 300. Other models were available for TL250 & TL 275. All models look and operate similiar to the Garmin Nuvi range I have in the UK and their mapping covers the whole of the island. Speed cameras are included and updates for maps and camera locations are provided free via their office as a download link is not yet available. Tested the device on the way home to Karsiyaka and route, route changes and camera locations were spot on. Look forward to using it to navigate the 'dark side'. Many thanks scubaboy.

Last year my son visited and had the current i phone and he had sat nav on that, we even went off roading and he could track our every move on it and found the best route back to the nearest road. So satnav for TRNC has been around at least 15 months

Hi

Waze is great for Lefkosa and Girne. Works well, has most speed cams and its free to download on your smartphone or tablet.
