Heightened security.
Following the dreadful attack on tourists in Tunisia, and given Cyprus' location, what extra security measures have been taken, North and South, one wonders? Have we seen extra security anywhere, more soldiers about?
Given that an "Arab" Canadian had 5 tonnes of explosives in his cellar in South Cyprus, it seems that at least 1 attack has been averted.
It seems that there is very little we can do as individuals, and we can only hope that our politicians are taking this a seriously as it is.

And also its widely reported in the UK that if air strikes are ordered they will come from an Akritiri airbase.

Should Parliament sanction the bombing of the terrorists in Syria the strikes are more likely to be launched from Turkey than 'Akritiri' or even Akrotiri within the WSBA.

Re: Heightened security.
Dropped wife off at Larnaca airport last Weds. Decided to go back via Beyamudu crossing as I was going to CESSAC beach in the centrevof Dhekelia Garrison for breakfast. Drove up yo garrison expecting security at entrance to be heightened and some checks....nothing, no one around. Drove to the beach area again nothing. Yes it was only 9:30am. Maybe military or UK nationals were told to be vigilant. Just seemed a tad strange to me as a beach in the centre of a military garrison, open to all would seem vulnerable.
Then again perphaps there intelligence on such matters is good.

Please correct me if I am wrong, as I'm sure you will, but I don't believe that the UK or its allies have military bases in Turkey.tomsteel wrote:Should Parliament sanction the bombing of the terrorists in Syria the strikes are more likely to be launched from Turkey than 'Akritiri' or even Akrotiri within the WSBA.

NATO has 24 bases in Turkey. Incirlik has been used on numerous occasions and is closer to the action.
