Hiring musical equipment
Lo, is there anywhere I can hire speakers/amps, guitars and drum kit in the Kyrenia area.
My Daughter is getting married here next year and we want to bring some musician friends over from the UK to perform but the cost of bringing their equipment would be prohibitive.
Is there a hire company locally or are there any local musicians that would consider hiring their equipment to 3 professional UK musicians.
Hope someone can help.
Many thanks

They may be having the reception at home in which case they surely would not need a work permit?

Re: Hiring musical equipment
I can't see how a group of friends performing for other friends would need a work permit ? Might be easier to hire a band for the evening then not let them play and just use their instruments (with their knowledge of course)!

Re: Hiring musical equipment
Although I am still trying to take the forum members name seriously, and not a spoof ! It seems that the authorities are more concerned about noise levels at many venues and I am confident if the correct moves are made by informing those close by the property concerned all will be fine. If your friends (musicians) are over 60 there seems now to be no problems as you no longer even need a Visa to be here as quoted by the Immigration department last week !
Assuming all goes well with your arrangements SWN you can PM me with your bands requirements ! regards Barry Snakes

Re: Hiring musical equipment
Why on earth should anyone wishing to perform a one off at a private function require a permit, there are visitors from the South and the UK etc. performing several nights a week .
Barrysnakes, with regards to spoof postings if you look closely you will see that a great percentage of people posting on here are unknowns and false names, my view is that anything posted by an unknown, (IE false i.D.) is not worth the paper it is written on, or in this case keyboard.
I queried this the other week with Forum admin. when a perfectly truthful topic was taken off because of biased, by mainly unknowns. But was told this is how a forum runs, and we would not have many members if we did not allow it.
I would imagine many different posters on this and other forums are just 1 or 2 people with a lot of time on their hands.

Hi totally agree, if it is a private function and the guests are invited to a wedding to entertain on a free basis. Full stop!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure you are right about that Johnny. People are often reluctant to use their own names for fear of attacks by trolls and other idiots.Johnny Lee wrote:Why on earth should anyone wishing to perform a one off at a private function require a permit, there are visitors from the South and the UK etc. performing several nights a week .

That is why I use a pseudonym. If the forum demanded I use my own name, then I would be off like a shot. Anonymity is not generally for spurious reasons, but for individual protection.
Can you imagine if the Cyprus Forum insisted upon real names?

Kaiserphil ! why on earth would you worry about attacks by trolls etc ! it seems a strange approach ! I have (as you may know) have had my fair share of critisism and attacks on this forum and others by people without the "balls" to say who they really are ! These are the Trolls and other idiots ! regards barry

Re: Hiring musical equipment
Barry, if that is a strange approach, then there must be a lot of strange people out there.
In common with many other people, I dont want people to know my real name. That is my right, and unless the forum changes it's rules, it will remain that way.
As a matter of interest is your name really "barry snakes"?. Not a surname I have come across before.

Incidentally, another possible for not using a real name on these fora is that certain "secret officials" read them daily, and one of them might take exception to somebody's comment.

Re: Hiring musical equipment
But realistically false names and not real people make the whole thing a bit of a farce. OK when giving people help and advice and of course this forum is very useful for that.
But when talking about maybe more serious matters or having a pop at people then lets have the genuine article. Or like I said it really means nothing.
Of course Snakes is not is real surname, but like myself he is known.
At least I woke this topic up again.

Re: Hiring musical equipment
Lo All, I can assure you that this is a genuine enquiry despite my choice of forum name! Mr Snakes has also been lucky enough to have met me, he just doesn't know it yet The reason I chose the name is simply that I already use this name on a forum elsewhere and my given name is boring, really no great mystery or story behind it, honest, I swear
Anyway, I have been advised/told that if the band are not playing a public event and it is 100% private then they will not require a licence to play. Whether this is correct or not will/may be subject to change as laws come and go here in a blink of an eye!

Re: Hiring musical equipment
There have been weddings here when entertainers of all sorts have been flown in for what is, after all, a private function! But thanks so much Gavin for answering the original question. I am sure if someone can help, it will make a bride to be very happy.
This is the Island of Love, so should provide answers to questions which are all to do with loving, sharing and caring.
And thanks to anyone else who can come up with an answer.
I would have thought there is an answer, but maybe by people who do NOT read the forum.
I will ask around, but hopefully Gavin might have the answer.
