Dog poisoned in Tatlisu

Just to warn people that there is poison around near the Sea and Sun estate in Tatlisu. We're not sure if our dog picked it up on the road through the ravine coming from there back along the old coast road or if it was on a dirt road running parallel with the ravine. Luckily our dog survived but it was touch and go as she was in a real state. We didn't even see her lick or eat anything so it just shows how effective these poisons are. We have since found out one of the farmers near where we walked has been spraying to get rid of foxes!!!! Barbaric to say the least, especially when his family come to visit with young children who play in that area! We now carry Atropine and know of an emergency vet who will come out to Tatlisu. If your dog starts falling over and rubbing itself along the ground, or runs away when you go to help it please seek help immediately as the survival of your animal can depend on the speed of response, don't wait until the animal starts foaming at the mouth or having convulsions as it may be too late by then.

SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THAT. I will spread the message through my Musings in Cyprus Star this week. The more people that know the better. Have you informed KAR, although it does look as though it is not intended for dogs, but just the old traditional method of protecting stock and flock.

this is the second case |I have heard recently where the owners did not see the dog ingest anything. Most odd.

Hi Marion, it's Claire here! I did tell KAR and Sibel and of course with your piece hopefully no-one else will have to go through what we went through. I found out several days after the event from one of our Turkish friends (who came to drop off some goats milk to help build Milou back up - bless him) that an elderly farmer who owns the land by the ravine had been spraying. Our friend had asked around after hearing about Milou which is how we found out. What makes it doubly annoying is that he is quite happy for us to walk our dogs along the edge of his land as they don't chase the chickens or sheep and go to him for a pat!!!
