I understand that the mayor of Esentepe called a meeting in the village for 9pm last night. This meeting
was open to all Esentepe residents but unfortunately we had a prior engagement and were unable to go.
Did anyone attend and what was the meeting about?

Yes -I and around 20 other expats attended together with 20 locals. The turnout was very disappointing to say the least but maybe this had something to do with the lack of advertising.

The Mayor took the opportunity to present the projects that he has started since being elected 12 months ago and he also covered a number of future projects. The meeting lasted 90 minutes and an English interpreter was their and I personally found it not only informative but also interesting.

This Mayor has achieved a great deal in 12 months -Water Meters- The Esentepe Beach Project- Statue of Peace and many other improvements have been made so he deserves our support.

Just a great pity it was such a low turnout as he clearly had made a lot of effort to make the evening a success.

We attended the meeting which we found very informative. It was also a chance to see the new Culture Centre and we were quite impressed.
The fact that so many didn't bother to turn up was a shame, particularly as there have been some people who have posted on this forum, making unfavourable comments on the Esentepe Beach project. They should have been there to speak to the Mayor face to face regarding their comments and he could have put his side of the story.
The Mayor was well prepared and EARLY!!!!!! Having attended meetings and events in North Cyprus, we are used to the so called VIP's rolling up when they feel like, not at all concerned about the audience being kept waiting. Instead, he was there well before the start of the meeting, fully prepared.
It was very informative and impressive seeing the projects which have been completed and the work in progress. He clearly is keen to improve facilities in our area and all credit to him.
The beach project is looking fantastic and will be a real asset to Esentepe. I would have liked to asked if they were committed to actually maintaining the beach throughout the whole year, providing plenty of bins which would be emptied regularly and cleaning the beach. Or would it just be maintained in the summer months and left as a rubbish tip for the rest of the year. Also, if the Esentepe Girne bus service could be expanded. However, at the questions part of the meeting, the TC's were asking questions, and rightly so but unfortunately their questions last longer than the voting round up at the Eurovision Song Contest and since we expats didn't have a clue what was being said as the 'translator' was by then, more interested in childminding, we left. We were told that the new website would have a questions section in English so it's no problem as we can use that.
Hats off to the Mayor, he's a man with a plan and we should give him our full support.

I would have liked to have attended but knew nothing about the meeting.

I am in agreement with the comments that our new mayor is a man with a plan

Thanks for all your replies, can anyone tell me of any new projects the mayor is planning and were discussed
at this meeting? I write a quarterly newsletter for our site and it would be of great interest to the owners to
know of any future plans for the area. How do you access the website that was spoken of?

No that's not the one. It may be that the website has. It been launched yet, it's a new project. The translation was a bit sporadic in the meeting so not quite sure when it will be online but there were photos of the home page in the booklets we were given, which detailed the projects. Unfortunately they were only inTurkish. I'm sure if you rang the Beledeyesi they would be able to tell you.
