Jenny Tyler scam email
I have just received an email purporting to be from Jenny Tyler who has supposedly been robbed in the Phillipines and needs a donation to help her out. I'm sure I've seen this scam before but I'm posting on here just in case Jenny or Kim aren't aware of it. Has anyone else received this email (which I deleted immediately)?

Yes I got it in triplicate! And this time I even wrote back and asked how many millions she wanted, and whether she would like some more English lessons! (she had an 'ordea')
Had loads of these in the past and n ormally advise people they have been hacked! I am sure Jenny is aware of that by now - I hope so.
I just don't know how stupid these posters are to think we fall for this, especially as it is a scam that been around for a decade.
But thanks for sharing on here, just in case Jenny was not yet aware or others. But one would know it was not Jenny! Wouldn't they?

Re: Jenny Tyler scam email
This is just one on many that are doing the rounds, and the format is very similar on each one.
Unfortunately the 'alleged' sender may not know that their address book has probably been hacked, so if you know the person concerned, try and let them know - other than by email...
There is also a tendency to want to reply to such emails with abuse etc. but this should be avoided, as it is possible route for the hackers to gain access to your address book.
You cannot be 100% protected against such scams, but ensuring that you have an up to date virus program running (which checks emails as well) and changing your email password regularly can reduce the chances.
With the increase in free wifi hot-spots, you should also beware of anyone offering to help you out with a problem - where they may tell you to use a hot-spot that is an 'open' one (not password protected/encrypted).
And of course - NEVER give anyone you password...

Re: Jenny Tyler scam email
This is an old scam - I've had this one several times with names of people I know.
Yesterday I got a text from Nat West bank telling me to contact them via a link because of a problem with my bank account. It all sounded quite genuine, but I knew it was a scam as I don't have an account with Nat West!

...and I've just had another scam e-mail.
It purports to be from HMRC (got their logo and all) telling me I've got a tax rebate, and if I supply my credit or debit card details they'll send it to me!
