Just listening to the amazing Barry Snakes CD that I brought home with me. It is absolutely brilliant. Thanks so much Barry for giving me the opportunity to listen to it. You are just fab. There is a " wee " !!!!! bit of a difference in listening to an " entertainer" and a real star!!!!! You are so amazing and thank you for all the times I have been able to listen to you in Girne. Turtle....I think Barry Snakes would probably fall into the category of neither. He is over 60 and therefore as a visitor he can come and go as he pleases, like many over 60's do here, also a bit like the other entertainers that all come over from the South that some people seem to enjoy or all the visiting musician performers that come from other countries that appear at the amphitheater and such.

A couple of things I would like to say,

I think it is totally unacceptable for posters to criticise an artist when he has no right to reply, due to being banned.

The Saints, you claim to be a friend of Barry Snakes but then go on to slag him off, wow, some friend!! if you were truly a friend you would have made your criticisms of him privately rather than on an open forum.

Just for info, I do not know Snakes, but this is just plain wrong.

For anyone who hasn't seen Barry recently I think they may need to go to listen to just how versatile a performer he is, although always labelled as the rock guitarist he is significantly mixing up his performance with all genres of music from reggae, rock n roll, disco as well as the soft rock there really is something for everyone and no predictability at all with his sets. Barry's performance is filled with music variety.
There's only 2 CDs ever allowed in my car and that's Barry's and James's two different styles of excellent music ( I can be biased with JAmes ha). Barry is a great mentor to James and there are not many people generous enough to share their experience and knowledge with others, James continues to learn from Barry's lessons and will always be grateful for what Barry has taught and continues to teach.


Let's hope people are mindful that Barry cannot reply or defend himself.

Totally agree with all you said Mishmash. Some people who have made derogatory comments about Barry wouldn't recognise a good musician if they tripped over one!!!!

There is no question in my mind that Barry is a very talented. He can play a wide variety of instruments exceptionally well and sing and write music. He ticks a fair few boxes. Whilst my musical tastes differ and vice versa, When he plays what I class as popular rock then I think for a one man show you will struggle to find better.

I actually love track 1 off his CD. Also there is one little lad called Ismail who will be eternally grateful to him and Mrs Snakes. Also I think I am correct in naming Saints, not really sure of his current forum name, hope Iv,e got the right person, but this man was also a life saver for Ismail at a very crucial time. Sorry to go off topic but If it is you Saints you deserved a mention. Regards Lee

The best guitarist I've seen on the island was Dan Aldred of Pearl fame.

He was absolutely outstanding.

Unfortunately he left Cyprus sometime ago.

I have seen both entertainers perform and would agree they do compliment each other but in my opinion Dan is a far better guitar player than Barry but Barry is a better singer.

As most people will know, Gwyn and I are Daniel's parents. As Dan has been mentioned in this thread, I thought that some Members may wish to know what Daniel is up to in the UK as regards Music.

I doubt that the type of music will suit the tastes of the majority and it is far removed from the type of music he did here which was for Northern Cypriot based Charities

Dan and Barry did play together for a while and I know that Dan enjoyed their 'sessions' and considers Barry to be a friend and true professional.

Learning to play an instrument (properly) takes time, effort and dedication. When you see an entertainer perform, you are probably seeing 10% of what it takes to be up there.

Most of them do it because they enjoy it - there is little or no money in it (for the majority)

Next time you are listening to an entertainer (well rehearsed, or not - to your musical taste, or not) - remember that it takes a lot of practice and dedication and a lot of nerve to get up and put yourself on 'offer'

Give them a clap - good or bad and remember, the more you drink, the better it sounds !

Interesting listening Paul reminds me very much of 1970's Uriah Heep and I'd say the lead singer is very good at the almost operatic style of the the late great David Garrick AKA David Byron....
