Step 1: https://www.gov.uk/driving-nongb-licenc ... er-country

Step 2: Email your rental company of choice, provide the link above, ask them if they accept you to hire a care on a license issued by KKTC.

Job done and you will get it direct from the horses mouth on an email you can print and take with you just in cas.

Simples........

ttoli, Quite true. If you live outside of the UK then your UK EU license is not valid in the UK anymore - strange that because it is required to drive in the RoC but the same strange rules apply there as well - if you want to go down that rabbit hole it can get quite exciting - the RoC do not recognise the KKTC driving license that is held by an EU citizen (this despite the fact that the vast majority of TC's also hold an EU passport) because if you are an EU citizen and you live in Cyprus then you should hold a Cyprus EU driving license. The Cypriots - even those who hold an EU passport - are allowed to drive on their KKTC license in the RoC - why? Because the EU will allow you to drive on a non EU license (if your country is on the list) within the EU for a maximum of 1 year, after which you must obtain an EU license.

The current answer is quite simple. First you reside in the RoC for a period of six months, then you can exchange your UK EU driving license for a RoC driving license. You can still keep your KKTC driving license - which is good worldwide apart from the RoC and Greece - because if you stay here more than 90 days you must have a KKTC driving license. Then when you go to UK you can use your RoC EU license or your KKTC one. That is until the rules change again or a government employee somewhere in the world has a bad morning and says "NO" because they can - lol.

DVLC only let you renew your UK licence if you lie about where you live - lol. If you give a UK address as a permanent address then you can renew but if you tell them you live overseas you will get a big NO!!!

my plastic UK license has run out, but I still have my green paper one, which is valid until 2021.
Is it still legal, or can they retract it?

That's true, but don't throw it away, no matter what they tell you!

Hi Fatouche, they may have scrapped it, but they issued it to me in 1975, saying in writing that it expires in 2021.
Keith, no way will I throw it away,it's almost an antique.

DVLA say "Old style paper driving licences issued before the photocard was introduced in 1998 will still be valid and should not be destroyed"

Correct; my son has the old style, and it is valid until he reaches 70 (nearly 30 years to go). I had an old style, but last December at the age of 70, I had to get a new style plastic photocard and paper licence - this paper licence is no longer required - but I've kept it just the same.....

The world seems to be going quite mad. We need a UK or EU driving licence if we want to go south, but if we return to the land of our birth, but don't actually live there now, then we can't use a UK licence. Wonder what gems they'll come up with next!!?
Then we have Barclays closing accounts of those who live here, or Malta and I think, Greece but don't have £100,000 in their account.
Discrimination springs to mind. I'm sure there are many pensioners here who have Pensions paid into Barclays, but no real capital there, and use their cards to draw cash here. They're being told by Barclays to find another Bank before Sept.11th! Not only that, but they must notify their Pension Provider, etc. etc.

I once had to use my TRNC driving licence to hire a car with Budget at Stansted, they made me pay for fully comp. insurance which doubled the hire charge.
