Turkey enter fight against ISIS
Turkey have given permission to the USA to use it's bases in Southern Turkey to fly missions agaist ISIS in Syria, also getting involved with bombing raids.
This can only increase the treat to western tourists in Turkey , just wonder how long it will be before the British Goverment advises a don't travel instruction.

Yes-this is a very disturbing development and one that ISIS will relish as they desperate want to kick start an all out war in the Middle East
As mentioned before on a previous posting the threat of ISIS could be partley responsible for the decline in the number of Brits holidaying over here.

Do all you can to try and whip up fear that these recent events are something to be seriously concerned about as widely as you can in the hope that it depresses prices, allowing you to snap up a bargain.
Was that the kind of advise you were looking for ?

Erol,
When dealing with the threat of ISIS the last thing on people's mind would be "house prices."
Very surprised and disappointed to read your comment.

Sorry to disappoint. However I was not the one to link the subject with if it should affect a decision to buy here or not. I did move on from that to prices and aknowledged that doing so was cynical. Anyway if i have upset you or anyone else then sorryArt wrote:Erol,

Re: Turkey enter fight against ISIS
It can only be a matter of TIME until we see an increase in ISIS terrorist acts within Turkey, yesterday's Daily Mail showed a pic of an ISIS Jehadi at a Turkish resort armed to the teeth. What the knock on effect will be in the TRNC who knows, we are seeing a down turn in tourist numbers already, may get to the point where people no longer feel safe and decide to move away. If there is a escalation we can expect to see economic decline in both Turkey and the TRNC So if your selling property ged rid ASAP, good news is the lira is expected to hit 4.5 to the £

Oh, that`s ok then, lets all roll over and let IS do whatever they want, wherever they want! I, for one, am glad Turkey has now joined in the fight, the sooner they annhilate IS, the better.

The last thing I was thinking about was house prices and gaining some kind of personal benefit. I have bought two houses in TRNC and sold both at a loss. It was a genuine question!!
I do realise that you benefit from attacking posters on the forum as you seem to be 'untouchable' due to the advertising your boss does on this forum, however, wind your neck in matey.
If this gets me banned so be it!!

Makum, to be fair he wasn't actually at the resort "armed to the teeth"
There were pictures of him at the resort...and...
Other pictures of him presumably in Syria armed.

A serious note before it's 'handbags at dawn'
About 8 years ago,ın TRNC having one of those peaceful evenıngs with some Cypriot friends,(they were showıng me how to enjoy a bottle of Raki)...I am still learning !!!
The subject of a united country for Cyprus and being in Europe was sensibly debated.I remember one eminent Cypriot sayıng;
The only solutıon is having 2 separate countries here(like North and Southern Ireland). They will get Northern Cyprus into Europe, and a few years later when Turkey applies again,Europe will say 'Why not?' We have Northern Cyprus,in EEC,that is a Muslim country. And Turkey has been such a good member of NATO....
Sounds good solution to me,eh?

Britain’s elite forces have helped thwart a plan to launch mass suicide bomb attacks against Westerners in Turkey. The country’s counter-terror police seized 250 suspects in dawn raids, aided by the SAS

ISIS Jihadi: Pasaliasi Isde
Counter-terror police have smashed a plot to launch a series of suicide bomb attacks aimed at British holidaymakers.
More than 5,000 officers seized 250 terror suspects, including IS members, in dawn raids across Turkey, helped by the SAS and US forces.
Sources said several senior Islamic State cells who were planning the atrocities were among those arrested.
If the attacks on Westerners, including Brits, had gone ahead there would have been hundreds of victims – including Turkey’s tourism trade.
A military source told us yesterday: “Turkish authorities have been planning this operation for months, but they had entered a race against time.
“They had intelligence that there was a plot to launch terrible suicide attacks throughout Turkey, in Istanbul tourist attractions and in coastal areas popular with tourists.
“They did not want a repeat of what happened in Tunisia, in which 38 tourists, including 30 Brits, were slaughtered.
And they added “it would ruin Turkey’s economy”. Sources said SAS advisers in southern Turkey formed part of a liaison team helping to plan the terror seizures.

Special forces teams advised Turkish police on how to smash their way into properties and catch suspects before they counter-attack.
In exchange, the SAS, MI5 and MI6 have gathered detailed intelligence on IS plots against the UK and the whereabouts of British jihadists.
It is thought several of those arrested may be of British origin, although the Mirror was unable to confirm this last night.
It comes as a photo emerged on Facebook during the week of an IS terrorist posing alongside holidaymakers at a Turkish beach resort.
Twisted jihadist Pasaliasi Isde stood near unsuspecting tourists at the Black Sea resort of Amasra.
He has also used Facebook to “check in” to a number of beach resorts along the coast in the last fortnight. The chilling snap highlighted fears the group is desperate to launch another Tunisia-style massacre.
Yesterday’s raids included operations against suspected terrorists in Istanbul and 12 provinces.

Along with IS fighters, among those arrested were PKK Kurdish rebels and left-wing Marxist militants the DHKP-C. As many as 98 terror suspects from all three groups were seized in Istanbul, including 36 foreign nationals.
One female DHKP-C activist was killed in gunfight with police in Istanbul. The rest faced hours of interrogation and, if found guilty, lengthy prison sentences.
The military source said: “After the suicide bombing on the Turkish town of Suruc recently, in which 32 died, the authorities realised they had to strike quickly to stop further plots.
“They they received information relating to another plot and launched these raids to stop it happening again, and against Western targets.”
Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan warned militant groups yesterday they must lay down their weapons or “face consequences”.
The arrests come as the country experiences increased IS activity. As well as Monday’s attack on southern town Suruc, IS militants killed a Turkish soldier last week by firing across the border from Syria. Turkish war planes bombed IS targets in response.
Officials fear attacks are retaliation for Turkey’s recent crackdown on IS operations, with more than 500 suspects detained in the last six months.

Re: Turkey enter fight against ISIS
This reminds me of early 90 when Greeks were buying long range rockets from Russia and they could reach Turkey. All troops were put on alert, in were not allowed to come up to me. Another time this road was full of tanks going to the border with a stand off against the Greeks with in in the middle. Then when first gulf war started loads and loads of expats left, I was meeting someone coming in andaskedwherebwerecall going. Oh we always go to the UK this time of they year1!!!!!!! Sit back and relax you probably have more chance being killed on the roads here.

Turkey now requesting NATO assistance in ISIS, conflict can only be an escalation to put boots on the ground, attacks stepped up by Turkish airforce against PKK command and control positions. Looks like tensions are running high, will we see NATO involvement.

I think the biggest problem this escalation may cause will be an attack on Turkey's tourist beaches by the PKK. The Kurds have seen how badly Tunisia has suffered at the hands of one terrorist, it's much easier to murder tourists than engage with the Turkish army and the consequences would deal the country's economy a serious blow.
We must hope that Cyprus does not get dragged into the mess.

What absolute rubbish you've just so ignorantly spouted!
The PKK have always sought autonomy for the Kurdish people - i.e., a state of Kurdistan in Turkey. They have never targeted any tourists or foreigners - in fact they are helping YPG [Peshmerga] and the Allies [UK & USA], and have so bravely fought and forced ISIL [DAESH] to retreat from many places they'd taken and become ensconced in.
You really need to grasp the 'grass roots' of the political situation in Turkey. I suggest you read 'Today's Zaman' & 'Hurriyet Daily News' - both online English language newspapers, who are absolutely anti the current, utterly corrupt AKP government that currently rules and oppresses the Turkish people.
The long time imprisoned leader of PKK, Ocalan, told them to 'lay down their arms' - which they did. Isn't it somehow incongruous that just prior to the June 7th General Elections, that Kurdish buildings, offices and people were suddenly targeted? Who actually did organise the recent Suruc massacre? There are some very dirty political games being played, resulting in chaos and panic - all in order to attempt to persuade the [mostly illiterate] bulk of the electorate to vote for a one party system, which would enable Erdogan to finally consolidate his dictatorship! Not my opinion, of course - merely some peoples' conspiracy theory!

SpongeDiver, I regularly read Zaman. Perhaps you should read this;-
http://www.todayszaman.com/national_ist ... 94732.html
"The Istanbul Police Department sent a written document to all of its units warning of possible attacks in crowded places in İstanbul, particularly in regards to the Yenikapı-Taksim metro line and metrobus, both crucial public transportation routes, on Monday."
Are you seriously suggesting there are no tourists in Istanbul.

Re: Turkey enter fight against ISIS
I've no wish to get in an altercation with you, Barney! However, do you take me as some sort of an ill-informed idiot not to know that Istanbul is chocker with tourists of all nationalities - a rather superfluous question, wasn't it?
ISIS cells have proliferated in Turkey to an alarming degree, apparently 'allowed' by the government. Only since the US delegation to Ankara did Erdogan decide to order the police to round up and arrest several hundred ISIS suspects.
Who allowed ISIS militants access to Kobane, which resulted in the massacre of 200 + people, mainly civilians? YPG were guarding all sides of the town, except for the 'corridor' from the Turkish border, which they, obviously, mistakenly thought is policed by the Turks.
Since the revelation concerning 'eavesdropping' activities by the Yanks and Germans, which Erdogan blithely fobbed off, it has been reported that AKP/MIT collusion with ISIS is indisputable - from supplying weaponry and goodness knows what else, to buying ISIL oil - millions of dollars of it. The AKP's excuse that they were only delivering humanitarian aid to the Turkmen, was utterly refuted by Turkmen leaders. Then, of course, the photographs of the contents of the trucks transporting the weaponry was published by Cumhuriyet newspaper. Erdogan wants the newspaper's owner, Can Dundar, to serve life in prison, [plus 42 years!] for doing this, which he claims is 'treason'.
It's all too obvious that scaremongering is Erdogan's game-plan. By doing this, he hopes that his party, AKP, will win a snap-election with a majority large enough for him to change the Constitution to suit him and to enable his 'presidential system', which means 'dictatorship'.
Anyway, as the suicide bombing instructor said to his class: 'OK, listen up guys, cos I'm only going to demonstrate this once!'
Have a nice day, Barney!

Spongediver, why are you surprised that I should take you for "some sort of idiot" when your initial response to my first post on this thread suggested that I ignorantly spout rubbish. Should you care to search "PKK target tourists" you would see that my post was based on fact not ignorance. The PKK is in a position to attack Turkey by damaging its tourist industry, Erdogan's cynical move to "join in" the fight against ISIS may backfire on him.
I'm tempted to say "enjoy" but it's not funny, is it.

Re: Turkey enter fight against ISIS
I do find the situation worrying and it does seem to me that the decision to attack not just deash but also PKK is related to the fact that the HDP party took 70-80 seats away from AKP in the last election depriving them of an over all majority. Restarting hostilities against the PKK for what appear to be primarily AK party political objectives is very worrying.

G'day Erol,
Many people are very much in doubt that PKK initiated the violence recently - or were they attacked first, and by who's orders?
Why are so many of the honest people in jail and the dishonest ruling?
Hi Barney,
Perhaps you're right that PKK attacks have killed and injured foreigners/tourists, even if unintentionally - can you give us an example, please?

Sorry Barney, I didn't click your link before posting my reply - I should have done!
If further attacks, either by ISIL or PKK do occur, I guess they'll either both be both claiming credit for them, or perhaps denying that it was the perpetrator being accused.
