A man hole cover has collapsed on the road outside Shar supermarket.
Some genius aware of the potential danger has marked it up with two plastic carrier bags stuck down the hole on a piece of plastic pipe. How bad can the health and safety get over here.
Its getting dark so please be careful.

Last time I visited Sha the locals had parked their cars in the bus lane and across the pedestrian crossing leading in to the store.

This saves them a walk of at least 50 yards.

Some even park in the doorway, so the automatic doors are opening and closing every few seconds, reminiscent of Supreme and Erdener, maybe some entrepreneur could open a "drive-thru" supermarket exclusively for locals.

All I can say is that there are a lot of "White" locals that park their cars in the bus car park. You can normally tell them by their "Red" number plates, their lack of suitable clothing and the high pink tint they all wear.

Lets not just blame the "locals" for everything please. Instead why not tell the truth - "The bus car park outside of Sha Market is frequented by a pack of lazy people who are far to important in their own estimation to have to walk from the normal car park" - there, that is more to the point.

Yes, I also note that Taxi drivers tend to park in the same sport but them I can forgive, they have to work for a living and time is money!!!!

Define locals please? Is it where you live or your nationality. I have parked there by the way when the disabled spots were full as I have difficulty walking far at the moment. Anyway so what!

Thanks so much for the warning. It meant when I went into the shop today I was able to look out for the danger spot. The balloons did the trick. I was sure they w ere not inviting me to a party.

I have seen a bus there, why do you not drop your daughter off and then collect her at the end of your shop? Unless you have a wheelchair, she has to walk around the shop. It is certainly not something you would do in the Uk, so why change your ways? I am told it is usually the mainlanders of the local fraternity that park close, this is from a TC. The black and white lines are for the safety of shoppers with their shopping. The supermarket have gone to a lot of trouble to make this experience as pleasant as possible.

The bouncer on the trolleys should have Denver Boots to attach to cars randomly left in places that are not designated for cars..... Too posh to park? Pay the fine!

Sorry but it's flipping annoying that as you leave the legitimate parking area, cars parked nose-in loosely in the bus stop means you often come perilously close to cars entering the site.

This must be about personal safety not convenience.

Image hitting a child who had just left the car parked on the pedestrian crossing .

1, You would have to live with this nightmare for the rest of your life.

2,It's guaranteed to be your fault and not the fault of the idiot driver who decided to illegally park their car on the crossing.

Apart from an emergency there should be no excuse for parking in the bus lane or on the crossing it's just sheer laziness.

No it has not gone to a lot of trouble to make "this experience" (what experience exactly?) as pleasant as possible : certainly not for disadvantaged people. In designing the building someone has obviously paid lip service to certain EU directives (which are themselves ıll though out and somewhat counter productive) presumably with the thought that some day they may apply here, but no thought has gone into why they were necessary. I visited a the second time a week or so ago, after reading the posts on Kibcom, to see what I had missed the first time. True there were Disabled spaces and Mother and Child spaces. All these were taken with no indication that is was by those who needed them. Unfortunately such provisions are ignored everywhere by selfish people of all nationalities unless someone takes the trouble to check and enforce them. The only access I could find to the loos and cafe were up a steep and badly lit flight of stairs , inaccessible to a lot of people with a variety of handicaps, not necessarily wheelchair bound. True there were doors by the foot of the steps marked Disabled and Mother and Child , but they were locked! The last thing one needs if one needs a loo in a hurry is to have to wander round a large store trying to find someone who speaks English and knows where the key is kept! Fortunately I found a space fairly close and I can walk sort distances, particularly with the aid of a shopping trolley, and didnt need the loo though I would have like to try the cafe but not to the extent of facing those stairs , but for many people it would be a nightmare, and I did not find anything that I could not get equally well at several more accessible stores nearby that woud tempt me to a third visit.

As far suggesting a carer could always "drop off" a disabled person - just where do you suggest: in the first place carers (and I have plenty of experience of driving disabled persons in the UK) has enough to do without an extra walk on top, and the cared may not be able to stand about waiting - I saw no sign of seatıng where such a person could sit and wait - not all disabled are at the stage of using wheelchairs. And they might even want to do their own shopping, and just need a little help - dont they have that right?

I also took the precaution of visiting in the morning (and wearing a large floppy hat) in case of a long unshaded walk. Such timing is not always possible for everyone and it should be born in mind there are also those who have health problems with too much exposure to ultra violet (including the very old and young) and if one already has walking problems the extra distance may mean a lot more than to an able bodied person.

I am an animal lover (and have three very spoilt rescue dogs and a depleted bank balance to prove it) but I am sometimes shocked by the number of posts ranting about cruelty to animals compared with the number of posts that show a complete lack of thought or compassion about human suffering.

This is so sad, a supermarket has given us this little bit extra, and I for sure appreciate walking through it's airy aisles, with plenty of room, appreciate it's air condtioning and it customer care, and of course the few extra products, but being brits we are still complaining, PARKING!! where in Cyprus do we have safe parking, disabled (not saying this right) what services do we have, we choose to live here, and it is our choice, which we all have, regardless of cirucmstance, so well done Shah!!!

My disabled daughter is in the uk so I dont have to drop her off as you suggest its me that has the walking problem at the moment after a bad fall so the nearer I can get to the shop the better. When i am back to normal I will park further away.

Waddo: It depends on the disability. As I explained my problem is csually omparatively minor and involves walking, but I can do short distances on smooth level ground, so most of the Supermarkets and shopping "parades" nearby usually enable me to park near enough: Erdener, Surpreme, both Lemars, Starling and the Catalkoy Tesco. I dont know about wheelchairs but Starling (near the Bellapaise roundabout) has ramps and disabled parking and Ckoy Lemar has a wheelchair. Again I dont know about disabled toilets , I just need one I can reach (ie not up stairs) in an emergency (ie a tummy upset!). If I have problems walkingto or round supermarket I use the trolley as a a walking frame which of course also helps with the other problem, carrying heavy things! The staff on trolley duty Supreme can be very helpful if they are not too busy and help me if I get stuck with a recalcitrant trolley.

Upper Crust which has a nasty slippery forecourt very dangerous for older people, can be reached from the rear carpark. Still not wheelchair friendly as involves a few steps but not many and with a handrail so within my capability.

Sometimes I do have problems parking near enough (because some selfish idiot has used a 4 x 4 to block three whole spaces, or motorbikes have unnecessarily occupied a whole space each) - in which case I simply go on to the next market.

If you are likely to be using these markets when your disabled friends come, let me know their requirements (pm if your prefer) and I will check the markets out as I visit them and other facilities in the area they may want to visit.
My main problem is with centre town locations, like Mr. Pound where is sometimes difficult to find parking and there are two stories. On the other hand when I get there (which means a lift from a friend) the staff are very helpful about carrying loaded trolleys up and down stairs and helping me.

If you are in this area and your friends are "taken short" dont forget Cheshire Homes (weekdays 9ish to 4 ish) has disabled toilets and other facilities. It might also be worth talking to Citizens Advice about what disabled facilities there are in the area.

Like the rest of us who are "getting more Mature" the main thing is toilets: Supreme are ok once you fight your way through the trolleys left in front of the door, Starling, I have never found them yet, Erdener, mystery toilets? Karakum Lemar, the toilet is actually in Burger City and "Small", Catalkoy, still looking for that toilet, Catalkoy Lemar is easy access but you need to know where it is first! Sah, not looked yet - been lucky enough to have not needed it so far but will seek it out - I know there are toilets upstairs and supposed to be some on the ground floor as well, if they are disabled and locked I will let the manager know why it is not good practice, he listens to constructive criticism by the way! Best access/toilets I have found so far is at Ciralla the bakery across from Upper Crust, perfect and meets all disabled requirements we have as well.
Parking is no problem because I am designated driver and will drive right up to the door to drop them off then go find a place to park, same on pick up.
If you ever return to Sah and have problems then look for the tall Pakistani gentleman who is normally found collecting and returning trolleys and helping people with their problems - he will do anything to help.

Many thanks, he did tell me but my hearing suffers the dread tinnitus and I missed it "TWICE" and did not have the heart to ask a third time. He may look angry at times but it is all for show, I have always found him to be a true gentleman and the most helpful guy in the shop.

I dont think Erdener have toilets - they are older and date from the time loos werent expected in a shop. There may be some in the cafe next door which I believe is owned by Erdener. I have never needed them because it is nearest home, but with increased age and increased travel time due traffic who knows? iStarling I must admit I have never looked - will next time I go, but it is no myfavourite anyway only use it if I am going in that direction for something else , but I was impressed by the parking and ramps.

I have never seen anyone with the trolleys at Şah (but I have only been twice) , but thanks for the info and I will look out for Ansar if I visit again and have problems.

When I checked the disabled loos at Şah, I noted the "mother and child" loos were also locked )and the spaces occupied) As women of that age are more lıkely to be Turkısh speakıng I was rather hoping one of them would find the locked loos, as I find Cypriot women rather good at making their displeasure felt in such cirucmstances!
