Why why why?
Why is it so hard to sell a car in North Cyprus?
If I was in England my jeep would have sold in 2 weeks but here there just seem to be no buyers! If it was scruffy and dented I'd understand but it's in excellent condition and I keep dropping the price but all I seem to get are people who want to do part-exchanges or who say "great I'll buy it as soon as I've sold my car", which apparently takes months!
What's your experience of buying/selling cars here?

Re: Why why why?
It took me about 6 months to sell my car and I dropped the price quite a lot.
I personally think that cars seem very over priced compared to the UK and that puts a lot of people off buying at seemingly inflated prices.
Who would pay 5-10K for a shogun/Isuzu/ Land Rover that you could get for 1-2K in the UK.
That's a built in mentality that we all seem to have.
That's my penny's worth anyway.

There are far too many cars for sale in the north of this island. Just take a look at all the oto galeri there are. How they ever think they will get the inflated prices they ask I do not know. Some of the cars will still be for sale in ten years time I should think.

Probably because the persons looking see a foreigner selling and think the person is selling up and moving away, hoping the price will keep dropping.

It's not even a 'Jeep' - it's a 9 year old Suzuki & he wants £10,500 for it!squashmad wrote:A Jeep
There was someone trying to sell a top spec BMW (Oops - I said Merc ) convertible of about the same age, and only been offered £9,000...
So, to answer your question, sunnyd, I think that you're asking too much for it - if it was one year older (so that it would have the advantage of the road tax discount) and £5,000 cheaper, I might consider it - although come to think of it, 2 Ltr still makes it expensive to tax...

I think you have to weigh up the balance as to the price of the car and then the cost of getting it here.
We have a nice car from Tiga, but now we need an old shitter to get us to the beach (10mins) with all our dogs in it. Since being here from 2007 there is nothing we could justify paying the price for .

Re: Why why why?
Hi, new to the forum, I advertised my BMW, which is a forth car and rarely used these days, I had three fair offers for the car within 24 hours and i've now decided I can't part with it! I priced the car about 5K less than similar cars on kktcarabam. I think there lies the answer, sellers need to be realistic, after all like any product, its only worth what someone is willing to pay. Prices are becoming more realistic and in line with the UK compared to when we arrived 10 years ago. A new Mercedes from Kombos will cost virtually the same as it would in any UK dealer.

Re: Why why why?
Yes it is a 2006 model but with low mileage and great condition. I did initially just go with the trader valuation I was given , but clearly as you say, car values have generally dropped in the last few years.
Interestingly the first time I moved to Cyprus I bought an old banger Renault 9 for £2000 (it would have been worth £100 in England!). And despite quite a few breakdowns... I only lost £1000 when I sold it)

Re: Why why why?
we joined that club too but it was a skoda £2000 and then we could not put it in our name as we were too old (commercial), 2 years later sold it, taxed and MOT for 1000ytl and found out it had a bank loan on it for 16k as only one payment had ever been made. What amused me was a garage sold it to us and the new buyer thought I would legalise it by paying the loan!!Sunnyd wrote:Interestingly the first time I moved to Cyprus I bought an old banger Renault 9 for £2000 (it would have been worth £100 in England!). Re: Why why why?
I put my Suzuki Vitara up for sale 18 months ago, had numerous people view it, but potential buyers wanted to pay few hundred lira deposit and then pay me monthly!! Even had one couple who took it for 3/4 hour test drive! Said, on returning they would phone after talking it over, got an email 2 days later, saying thanks but no thanks! Eventually sold it for negotiated price, which we both found reasonable. Secret is don`t over price it, even though you will get a lot more than you would in the UK.

Re: Why why why?
i'd say the same about my house. its no palace but liveable. Why do people want something for nothing? my neighbour asked how much I was selling, I told him and his reply was oooh too expensive. mine is bigger, and when asked how much he he selling he said 10 grand more?? it is exactly the same as mine, minus a new kitchen he fitted, which is very tiny, and cost him a few hundred quid. what planet are some people living on??
