What would you be prepared to pay for Weakest Link

calling all lovely Weakest Link supporters of the last three years!!!! The SPOT fundraising committee are tyring to organise this year's event. Date not fixed - maybe 5th November, might be earlier; Venue not fixed, but aiming for a 5 star hotel in town. The 'cast' - half fixed with some interesting people (more later), but here is the 64,000 dollar question - how much would people be prepared to pay to come and support SPOT. what if we go to a 5 star hotel, with mezes served during the evening, some interesting contestants (well, i think they are) - what might you pay. We want to keep it as low as possible, but would you pay, say 60tl or maybe 65tl or ??? Obviously less if we can.
It really would help us, as we want it to be a success and if we get a ballroom in a hote, we need tohave a good number of people to make the atmosphere good. By the way, at the last count we have a real Ann Robinson coming. apparently the Beeb were thinking of having a whole programme of Ann robinson's so that the real ann would have to keep saying ;ann robinson, you are the Weakest Link.

so please, you lovely people, help us out here, and don't leave me being the Weakest Link - I am not built for it.

While I am all for helping SPOT, I think, as probably do the majority of people on KIBCOM, that a more 'down to earth' venue would be preferable.

I enjoy the KIBCOM forum, mainly because the majority of posters, like myself, are every day, no 'airs and graces' people who would be more at ease in a setting less than 5 star, and could actually be put off from attending because of the suggested venue.

I cannot, at the minute, suggest an alternate venue, but I am sure there will be people who can and then we can go by the general concensus.

Somewhere central, so therefore easily accessable, reasonable prices, and where we can all be relaxed.

Ijust hate that word 'posh'. And I am not sure what it means. But the WL if it was in october would haveone of the east Enders cast - and that ain't 'posh' , innit? However, as yet no venue booked, no defnite date, but the committee is VERY happy to hear from anyone that can suggest a venue that has space, a stage large enough to take contestants and 'ann;' that will provide some grub at decent prices, and a sound system to enable it to be done. Oh, and central! Ideas please.
going back to the 'posh' bit, it is the venue that we seek not a ball, and one may wear as one chooses. On the other hand, it is good to have an excuse to put on some really nice clothes, go to a really nice plac e, and have a 'nice ' time.

at the end of the day this is a fund raising, awareness raising event for SPOT but one which we try to make enjoyable as a night out. And we really DO welcome ideas (the committee does, I mean) on a suitable venue that people will want to attend.

You might get more fans in the kilt than in the birthday suit, and it could make the big difference of being allowed into the premises or not!!!!

an interesting discussion on what to wear, not to wear, where to go and where NOT to go, but NO ONE has answered my question - namely 'what would you be prepared to pay for the Weakest link night. Do I get the impression that you want a 20tl do with peanuts and crisps anywhere, or would you be prepared to pay more for a central up market location with a meze type food for more money. SPOT is trying to decide what to do and how, or whether to forget it altogether for this year. so, some positive responses would REALLY help. Now that it is know that kilts can be worn, but birthday suits best adorned with other accessories!

Marion, it looks like it's a case of a cheaper venue where you sell more tickets and the venue earns more revenue with the sale of drinks, rather than a ''posher'' venue, where less turn up, and less revenue is earnt.
Good luck to you, it isn't easy trying to raise funds for any charity.

thanks, but finding a cheap venue that can hold what we want is equaly difficult. And also for the lots of hard work it does not generate much income - but thanks for the comments. it is difficult, particularly as there are so many charities and they are all doing quiz nights, music nights, etc, etc. The only charity that makes REAL money is Chilldren in Need because they DO hit the top end of the market. Butt of course, with SPOT it is also awareness and the chance for people to hve a fun night. difficult, as you say, but thanks for givin a good honest reply.

Sempati and Simena are too far out west, and Pia Bella does not have a suitable room with sound equipment. I t really needs a theatre or ballroom type place. Mountain view was good but not enough sppace inside for tthe contestants, and Lamboussa is too far out. It wuld be good to see youu but i am getting the feeling that there might not be a 'next time'

How about the good old Dome? I was there earlier this year for International Womens Day there is a stage and loads of room plus the food was quite good.

Deniz1, I was going to suggest The Dome, maybe not 5 star but if it has all the facilities, ie lighting etc, why not?

It is central, there are good parking facilities and I have been to venues where the Dome was responsible for the catering and the food was excellent.

~thanks for the idea of the Dome. But it won't be any cheaper than The Rocks! Hopefully it can be investigated and see if it is. Actually their car parking space is far smaller than for the Rocks, and I always find it difficult to park around the dome , but if they can deliver the goods, it could be an answer. Further investigation will be made. Thanks. But as I say, it could well be as pricey/ or reasonable>? as the Rocks.

There are two biggish car parks close by to the Dome shouldnt be a problem.

I was going to suggest the amphitheatre, it will still be warm in October, lovely views, parking no problem, and for those who want it, bar and food can be arranged. BUT, hubby informs me there is no stage lighting or pa.

He suggests that if enough people are agreeable to this, then whoever is doing the organising go and see Mehmet Ali at the culture centre near the Wednesday market, he is very approachable, and speaks english.
