Kitten Showcase Day
Some of our orphaned kittens, who have been hand reared, will be making an appearance at Chateau Lambousa on Saturday August 22nd from 10 am to 12 noon. They will be looking for their new "forever" families so please, if you are thinking of making a kitten addition to your family, come along and meet them.
Our experienced kitten fosterers will also be available to have a chat and answer any questions about the highs and lows of fostering such vulnerable babes.

Truth is this is nothing new really. Here is a youtube video from 8 years ago featuring some of that years 'crop' of 'foster kittens'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVWA9g99VRU Most if not all of these found forever homes and at least one from that video is still with us as his 'forever parents'.

If only they would neuter, the problem will never go away. Good luck in finding for ever homes for them, they are adorable. I have had cats for 40 years but just foster now (UK)

Re: Kitten Showcase Day
There are always enough that get away and the cat population does not get smaller. We have several cat that are choosing to stay with us and I have managed to get several neutered, but....always a female that sneaks off on Vet day!!!!
I am in Dipkarpaz and people here are generally kind to cats as they think they are helping to keep the vermin down, but cats also have enemies here, foxes and hunting dogs and sometimes poison.
One sneaky female keeps having kittens but fortunately(??) they don't all survive. She is not such a good mother. I have really made friends with her now and fingers crossed, we will get her to the vet this time.
There is one kitten with her now. When is the earliest I can take the mother to be neutered???

According to cats.org.uk, "Neutering can be performed even if a queen is in season, pregnant or lactating and is best discussed with your vet".
Also..."The length of pregnancy in cats is just nine weeks and a female cat can often come into season again just six weeks after giving birth" - so you'd better get your skates on!

Why not just do what my 'better half' does and just not ask or tell him until its a 'fait acopmpli' ?Marions wrote:Oh drat. I want the white one but will 'I'm downstairs be agreeable?
There are at least two really sweet all white ones.

Re: Kitten Showcase Day
You don't have to wait until August 22nd for that new kitten....
We rescued a gorgeous tabby kitten of about 5 weeks. We found her on Monday looking very sorry for herself, dirty, hungry and not very happy.
Since then we have cleaned her, wormed her and fed her up (she is a big eater). We are moving to France so we are unable to take her. Already taking two dogs and two cats.
If you are looking for a lovely new kitten then she could be for you.
First come, first served!
She can be seen at Karsiyaka. Tel 0533 8400681.

The RSPCA and Cats Protection recommends that cats should be neutered at 4 months of age. It would stop so many unwanted kittens being born if this advice was heeded.

Re: Kitten Showcase Day
The kitten ( just one left) from the mother that escaped neutering. She is a lovely cat, but not a good mother and very secretive with her kittens and survival is not great. She is forever moving them and dropped the poor thing from the top of the house and it survived!!! We will be keeping it!! Now we just must make sure the mother is neutered. I'm not sure how to achieve that. the kitten is still suckling and I do not want to interfere with bottle feeding etc. It's only 5 weeks old. But the 'boys are already starting to come and sniff around

Brilliant news Erol, I just love cats & know they survive better than dogs on the street but producing litters one after the other needs preventing.

Re: Kitten Showcase Day
Indeed preventing birth of unwanted cats (and dogs) is a better solution, and KAR (and my other half at various times working for KAR) have been and continue to do what they can with regards to 'neuter and return' programs. However there will always be some 'unwanted' orphans like these ones despite such efforts and right now the focus for me in this thread is to try and find as many 'forever homes' for these specific kittens.Cally wrote:Brilliant news Erol, I just love cats & know they survive better than dogs on the street but producing litters one after the other needs preventing.
I heard a story the other day, bizarrely on an internet 'get rich quick' video I happened to watch. It went something like this.
A young boy goes down to the beach only to discover thousands and thousands of starfish wash up on the shore. He starts to pick them up one at a time and hurl them back into the sea. A old fisherman goes up to the young boy and says "there are thousands and thousands here, do not waste you time you can not possibly make any difference". To which the boy responds by picking up another starfish and throwing it back into the sea and says 'well it made a difference to THAT one'.
Can we (or KAR) help every animal in distress ? No we / they can not, but every animal that is neutered helps to a degree and every one homed helps THAT animal, which is why we keep on doing it. Just to be clear an honest, my personal participation in such efforts is pretty much limited to 'tolerating' my other halfs efforts (and maybe a bit of forum 'pushing' to try and help homing).

Re: Kitten Showcase Day
I am sure KAR will give a proper report in due course but my understanding is that at least 5 were homed as a result of this event. Thanks to all those who offered homes and a future to these orphan kittens. There are still more in desperate need of homes so please consider it yourself and keep 'asking around' of others who might be willing to offer homes. Thanks

Re: Kitten Showcase Day
That is good news indeed sorry but we already have 3 cats & the youngest one is a real little thug. I can imagine her shredding any new arrival like she does any visitors who always go home with scratched noses although they try to keep out of her way!

At least you can be assured they have been hand reared and brought up in a home environment so will adapt very quickly to new forever home.
